Battery with more Poop ??
« on: April 12, 2014, 01:50:38 AM »
Some of us LIKE owners who have a few thousand miles on our scoots are having full-blown starter issues, or moments when we wonder if it is going to catch, even when it has always started there are moments of uncertainty with these small batteries and small starters.
And of course EFI'd scoots have no kick start to get us home from the donut shop if the starter fails!
What are the recommendations for a battery with a bit more grunt to light the starting sequence ? Of course we need it to fit our battery box.
Maybe I'm out to lunch here. Again....
Thanks again for the veterans here.

"Biggest...?"
Big what Vivo?
Capacity, Amps, CCA ?
I found a couple Yuasa batteries that will fit my LIKE - they are the same size as my stock battery:
              Stock           other Yuasa's
capacity  8.0                 9.5     11
amp         .9                   1.0   1.1
CCA        135                175    210
I don't want to fry anything....what is OK to go to?
Still learning here...Stig

What Vivo is saying is that you simply get the highest quality battery that matches the dimensions of the battery box. If the Yuasa fits, then get it. Try the battery catalog at the dealer or motorcycle shop. They will have dimensions.

You can also look into lithium iron phosphate motorcycle batteries, but be warned they will require a special charger to top up from time to time for optimum performance. They also cannot be deeply discharged too far past empty or else they cannot be recharged, so be careful leaving accessories on while the bike is off.

Alternatively, you can get a small portable jump start battery for emergencies.

I personally have a small charging pigtail to the battery that I plug in once a week.

I emailed yuasa folks to ask which of their batteries ...which are the same size as the Like  battery..and which have more amps..CCA...etc....would be good replacement for the stock battery. DEEP P I T BUTT to find a yuasa size chart so I Could do my own research.
I Found a yuasa 5mm taller...1.1 amp ...210 CCA....3lbs heavier..
Compared to our .9 ..135CCA....etc.
Looking to see if it will fit without too much trouble...This is what I was hoping to learn here. Hope yuasa tech will tell me if Ok to put in my LIKE.

The size chart is available on Yuasa's website if you are still looking for one. The dimensions are listed on Page 8.

How much room above the battery does there appear to be in your Like before it reaches the battery cover?

Surgeon thanks
That's what I was looking for...l didn't download far enough.
There is a much better battery that is 5mm taller than stock....I think l can trim that off of the hold down post which is on the bottom of the battery cover. That post is 10-12mm long. I only need to gain 5mm. Iwillkeep looking at sizes but this one looks pretty good!
Thanks again for pointing me to the size chart! Looked all over for this info.

For what it's worth . . . DaBinChe is running an AntiGravity lithium battery in a Honda NHX110, and is on the rider list for the June 3-12, 2014 Scooter Cannonball.
