[SOLVED]Burning smell after running for a few miles
« on: April 17, 2014, 03:20:12 PM »
Hey ladies and gents. I have a brand new scoot. 2013. I'm in the break in period right now. I noticed that after 3-10 mile ride the exhaust emits a foul smelling burning paint smell. I can also see a bit of smoke coming out from underneath the aluminum heat shields. Could this be packing material? Did anybody else get this?

Thank you for your time,

Mikethesloan

I had that hot new exhaust smell for the first several rides on my scoot - but never any smoke!
I'd give the dealer a call.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

That really may be normal but take a closer look. Perhaps a hose is loose or maybe a rag was left there after inspection.
Odd smells will happen during break in due to assembly lubes/fresh paint ect. Like Stig says... Smoke isn't really in the game. Maybe just a tiny wisp from the exhaust pipe but nothing more.

I emailed the dealer and this is the exact response:  "The smell is completely normal. When the scoots are new, there is a product called cosmolene that is sprayed on the machine to keep it from weathering while it is crated. It will burn off and be good to go. That is the smell of a new machine!"

As for the smoke, it is just whisps. Nothing crazy. So I think I will be ok. Thank god for two year warranties.
