how do you get to the tail light bulbs???  one of the tail lights is out, not the turn signals, but I can't figure out how to get to them short of disasembly of the entire bike.

It's acutally pretty easy!  You don't have to take off all of the plastics.  There are 2 10mm nuts on either side of the license plate light.  Remove those and the section just below the tail light with the turn signals comes off.  Behind the turn signals are 2 more screws that hold on the tail light.  Once you remove those the whole tail light comes off and the bulbs just plug into the back of it.  You don't have to remove the side panels or seat box or anything else! ;)

thanks Shaka, I ended up taking a lot more apart do to not being able to see the top clips holding the tail light lens.  So off witht he seat, seat bucket, 6 more screws but it's all back together with working lights.
