Couple questions about coolant
« on: May 08, 2014, 08:59:00 PM »
I'm probably developing a reputaion on this forum but here ya go..........

The Venox is low on coolant so I checked the manual for densities and freezing points, listed in the manual -

25% -12 C
30% -15 C
40% -24 C
50% -35 C

The first one for example, that means 25% coolant, correct?  I'm in Columbus Oh, in theory the temp could get down to -30C.  To be safe, should I just make a 50/50 mix?  Or could this be too much coolant for the heat, which could get to 41C?

Also, I don't see any mention of what type of coolant to use in it, does it take the same stuff that goes in a car?  It's got the green stuff in there now.

Thanks!

The Preston premix is silicate-free.  Silicates are not recommended for motorcycle cooling systems.

You can use one with silicates as long as you change them at least once a year...otherwise, you will have that white powdery stuff inside your cooling system...   The OAT/HOAT stuff (silicate and borate free) lasts around four to five years...
