Michelin City Grips

   Got my new Michelin City Grips today on the recommendation of several forum members. Wanted a good rain tire for wet days. I upsized the front tire to a 120/70-16 to correct my slightly optimistic speedometer.

  I have my original Maxxi tires for sale for $25.00 each. Excellent condition with 2400 miles on them. See my ad in the For Sale section of the forum


  UPDATE:  Riding around on my new tires and I love them. I'm also happy to say that the bigger front tire put my speedometer dead on. I verified it with my GPS up to 70mph. I probably won't ride much above that so that's as far as I went.

Mrmike, I was at a local cycle/scooter shop about a week ago.
I ask them what a rear City Grip would cost for my GT.
They quoted me $150. installed.
Does that sound reasonable to you?.

BikeBandit price matches whatever the lowest cost you can find is. They are usually cheaper than everyone anyway.

I paid $110 for two 12"  City Grips, delivered to my door &  $150  total (w/tax, etc.) tohave them put on. So $150 for a big 16" rear tire seems like a reasonable deal to me. I would think a front tire install would be easier, quicker & thus  a little cheaper.

  I checked three local dealers around here. I bought them at the cheapest. It cost me $83.96 for the front (oversize 120 instead of 110), and $110.36 for the rear (140). They charged me $70.00 to mount and balance both. Total $264.32. About $100 cheaper than the other two estimates I got from the other local dealers.

      Swapping the tires on the rims is just like a bicycle. I can handle that. The tough part is getting the rims off the scooter. I don't have the means to do that. Too bad you don't live in Syracuse, I would have paid you to do the job.

Im glad I have a 300i downtown,. I only take off the muffler, rear shock and muffler braket and plastic fender that is tight over the wheel, than the wheel comes off ,. I can do that in 1/2 hour, putting it together is a little faster,. I have done it 3 times so far , repeats might be faster if I dont get a senor moment,.

For the cost of a Sears tool kit... you'll break even. Maybe buy a bottle of Burbon, and bribe a fella from work to help out.
