Condition that cause oil out of overflow tube ?
« on: May 16, 2014, 11:53:44 AM »
What condition cause oil to drip out of the clear overflow tube extending down the bottom of the scooter below the carb. I had a drop or 2 not sure if its normal or not. Ill keep an eye on it. The oil was green and quite viscous.

Normal. Small amounts of oil are ok and just part of normal operation.

Good to know as there is nothing about that in the owners manual.

There's not much about anything in the owner's manual!
That's why the forum is awesome. Any question you have, someone here will know the answer.
And if nobody here knows, then it's just broke so go buy another scooter!  ;D

green oil?

Yes it was green, may have been gear oil. I just replaced the gear oil last night.

i just cleaned my scooter and wiped up all the leaked oil ( even used plastic zip ties).  a few days later the leaks are back.  i guess it is common !
stay safe riding!

It is excess gear oil. I am guessing you did not measure the oil amount you installed but rather filled it up till it weeped out the top vent plug.

Take out about two tablespoons worth, and the weeping will stop.

Seems after replacing my gear oil and putting in a carefully measured amount, the dripping has stopped.

Funny how Kymco can get a few things right. At least they know how much gear oil is correct.

Just want to update this.

Oil is not flowing out of that tube as the tube is connected to the bottom of the carb it wouldn't eject oil. This I believe is caused by my sloppy filling of the 2t oil reservoir.
