Hey everyone! Has anyone ever had to tighten the rear view mirror on a DT 300? Pulled up on the rubber boot, located the nut,but can't get anything in there to tighten it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

If I remember ,  you tighten the nut down, not up,  down is to the base of the mount,.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried to get a socket on it, but they don't give you much room to work. The ones I have won't fit in the space around the nut. I'll try to figure something out!

Yeah, had some body work done on my DT, and had the mechanic tighten my left side view mirror. You'r right, it's difficult to find a tool that will do the job.

the wire for the turn signals get in the way, I disconnected the wire,  just a little lower under the other rubber,
I use a regular spanner ,  # 17 I think,.

Yes, it's almost if the the socket "wall" is too thick to fit in there!! Maybe I'll look for a thinner socket. Thanks, de dee and wolf for the replays.

I use a 17 mm open end on the DT300i mirrors. I cannot even imagine anyone considering using a socket on the lock nut. All threads are right-hand so the wire needs disconnecting and the nut turned left hand just to unlock, the turn the mirror to the left. What am I missing here?

Maybe I'm trying to tighten the wrong nut. I'll take a picture, later today. I did tighten the ones you guys are describing, but when I drive at highway speed, it still moves a bit. I thank you all for the input!!!!

Wrong nut! Peel all the rubber up from the bottom. There will be a 17 mm locknut under the bottom rubber fairing. Turn it in a left, unscrewing motion. Once loose, unscrew the mirror in the same manner. The picture shows the nut which sets the "drag" on the mirror pivot.

if that needs tightening,  look for the size you need in 1/4 " socket set,  should be thin wall ,.  that nut is spring loaded, to allow the mirror to move if it gets hit,
