Today I worked on someone else's Downtown. I used to ride this particular bike, but it went through a few owners in between. The customer was unable to open the seat. Left side latch would release but the right one would not.

The customer had replaced the battery as a preventative measure. In doing so, he might have reattached the seat strut on the wrong side of the bracket. This might have put a twist in the seat and seat bucket. The right side seat cable was also adjusted to match the left's release rate. Both click simultaneously now.

To get to all this fun stuff, the front with the headlights was removed. The barrel adjuster on the ignition seat release was already maxed out. Then I went around back and opened up the body above the taillight. Took my index finger and hooked the seat latch. POP!

I'm very glad I left notes back in 2013 on here for my future self to reference!  :D

I've also bought a Downtown of my own. 2500 km/1550 mi dealer demo.

Why can't they give us a key lock directly into the latch area?!
That fancy key twist stuff up front is bound to fail some day.
My new Piaggio has a button to electrically unlock seat...with another manual lever in front glove box....I'd still rather have the key lock at rear of seat....near the latch.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I'm also a fan of simplicity. My car has a beam axle.

At least seat cables I can deal with. I wonder how interactive integrated displays and gauges will keep up with smartphone technology and obsolescence. I also don't look forward to LED arrays failing. At least with a halogen or incandescent bulbs I can swap them easily and inexpensively.

My old Aprillia had the key lock next to the seat latch. It was the only reliable part of the whole bike.

Rather then messing with the inadequate .8 amp 12V socket in the glove box I drilled a 1" hole in the underseat bucket next to the light, mounted a socket, ran a 20 amp fused 12 gauge wire from the battery to the socket and now have the current to run an air pump, charge my phone, or plug in a charger for the DT's battery.

I had a plugged injector for a week from my bike sitting for two years before I bought it. Had code 33. Managed to run a tank of fresh gas and injector cleaner through. It's very happy now.

Failing this, the service manual suggests removing the injector and hooking it up to a small battery and a turn signal relay. The injector is placed in a dish of concentrated injector cleaner. Leave for roughly half an hour.

How do you like them? I'm not thrilled with the stock Maxxis tires. I had the Michelin Power Pure SC before on my other bike, but it's been too long to remember how it rode. I did love the Diablo Rosso II on my CBR250R -- transformative tires.

Hi I did do a short write up on them in the past.

Anyways as a comparison to the PP SC that you had, they ride a bit better, much better grip in the wet, in the dry its all confidence same as the PP SC. Lasts the same. I am getting 10,000km from a rear.

They just get the job done. No questions asked. The PP SC did too but those were slippery when wet.

Michelins are crap, especially in the wet. The Pirelli Diablos are much better.
