How far is to far?

How hard do you push your scooter or motorcycle? Does anyone feel this is bad or harmful to push one as long as your below the redline? Personally I run my S9 below the red line most of the time and occasionally right at the red line (rev limiter is not removed) and I feel that its not to much of a strain on the motor.

Under redline I'd run it till the body can take no more.
Ifs that's not the case ya got the wrong scoot !

Common sense says that the higher you keep the rpm's, there will be more wear. Four stroke or 2 stroke both wear. It's been my experience from building and racing both 4 stroke and 2 stroke motorcycles, that 2 strokes don't like prolonged high rpm's at or near redline.

I don't have an RPM gage on my peoples 200 but at top speed you can hear the eng. sound like she's tripping over herself (that's the only way I can explain it), sounds like over reving but I've never hit a limiter assuming I have one on my scoot.

I always back off a few MPH and she seems to be more comfortable. Now on a better built eng. like an outboard motor which will run all day at top rpm.

Youse is some kinda guy!
Pushing my scoot out of the garage gets me winded if I haven't had my coffee....never get anywhere near the red line, even if she gets away from me and heads towards the mail box!

I don't mind running four strokes at redline as long as the engine oil has had time to rise to operating temperature. When the oil is warm and flowing everywhere, there is a minimum of wear.

Beware that engine coolant warms up quicker than engine oil. Coolant may be at operating temperature, but the oil may only be lukewarm!

Well keep in mind its 50cc 2 stroke liquid cooled so it redlines (8000rpm) at about 45 to 50 mph (I usually only go about 35 40 and run at 6500 to 7000rpm). I assume thats normal? My current setup is all stock except my boss drive.

X2 I just injoy rideing at a good pase.but yet again I love the speed of ,45 or better.

This topic is one reason I wanted at least a 150 scoot, around the areas I intend to ride speeds are 35 to 50 with a lil power to spare. To me a 50cc is just not enough oomph, if you have to redline it always that should ring a few bells in your thought process's. It does cause more wear and tear on the scoot or any machine.

two wheel fun that is the reason I got a 300i downtown, good riding other side of town, speed to get there 70 to 80 mph.  or the traffic will run you down,. cages are nuts,.

50cc does have its advantages though, parking legal on a side walk, no tags or reg, no M endorsement, cheaper ins etc.. I could see myself at 70 riding a Honda metro for short trips, not now though.

They'd be great for getting across WalMart from the ammo isle to the Depends~!
 Will keep this is mind....for when I get old.

Hey, I work at a Walmart! I wish they'd let me ride my scoot around the store.
It would be SO much easier to chase down shoplifters running for the exit!!

Yep always loved those advantages! For now I can deal with only going 35 mph considering its saving me money. But riding a scooter in Walmarts a killer idea, might just have to try that sometime.
