quick question

Good day everyone.. I am about to leave on a 200 mile round trip journey on my scoot. I  have to scooters, a 2009 yamaha majesty with 2000 miles, and an xciting 500 2009 with 6600 miles. Mostley freeway. Both have fresh mobil 1 oil and new filters.  Which one would you take and why? Thank you all and be safe riding.

If the Majesty is a 400, I'd take the Majesty.

It's more comfortable, has better wind protection and a lot better fuel economy at
high speeds, and even if it has less power it's geared for a higher top speed then the
XC.

And a general touring thing, more underseat storage on the Majesty again.

To be perfectly honest, as much as I like Kymco scoots, I'd rarely choose the XC over
the Majesty 400 (or a Burgman 400, even better), unless it's about aggressive riding
in the twisties, but again, there's better choices then the XC for that too.

If the Majesty is a 250, take the XC.

My concern with KYMCO is their lack of adequate dealer's around versus the Yamaha that has dealer's everywhere.

All of the off brand/ exotics have this dealership problem and lots of us don't want their brand because of this lack of dealer support and availability.

My closest Honda-Yamaha-Suzuki and Kawasaki dealer's are within 15 to 20 miles from me.

The nearest Kymco dealer is 60 miles south not far from my nearest BMW dealer. Moto Guzzi and Aprilia are 150 mile North, Ducati is 130 mile west and 150 miles north west.

I would take the 500.

I completely missed that it was a 200 mile trip.

I used to do 150-200 mile trips for fun on my 50cc peugeot and 125cc kymco while I had the Ninja 650 in the garage.

It's completely irrelevant which bike it is for 200 miles, but if it's gonna be 80-90mph cruising, the Majesty will save
a lot of fuel compared to the XC doing that.

Yes the majesty is a 400. These are the first scoots I have ever owned. 200 miles at 70 mph I thought may not be good for these things. I feel it revs high. It makes me kind of nervous.  I guess I need more freeway time on them. Thank you all for your comments....I really appreciate you all.

I like looking at lower revs too, but they're fine, especially the Burgman which is probably geared higher.
You can drop the revs at cruising speeds (and gain some acceleration) by swapping the stock rollers with
10-15% lighter Dr Pulley sliders. You'd probably get 500 revs less at 70mph and up.

I did that on my Downtown 300, and usually kept it between 70 and 75 while on straight roads (and it
wouldn't go over 85mph with the huge windscreen and topcase I had - your Majesty has a lot more left
after 70).

You should do that especially if you have the last gen Majesty - I forgot when they changed the CVT setup
in the old one (2008?). First gen Maj400 took 14 seconds to 60mph, after they "fixed" it it took 11-12, just
like the last gen does (and just like my stock downtown was).

Going 10% lighter with sliders it took the acceleration time down from 11 to 9 seconds and dropped 500 revs
at speeds above 65mph. Win/win situation.

I've worked twice in the motorcycle industry for about 5 years total since 2003 till now so I got a chance
to speak with a lot of owners and work with all dealers of all brands, and had some nice access to scoots
and bikes while writing reviews for a local mag too, so, that's where all this is coming from.

I've seen 40k miles as a standard on a well maintained 50cc high-strung peugeot (which is nothing special
quality wise) water cooled engines (about 5hp), so, all of these big scoots we're talking about should be able
to do a lot more.

I wouldn't worry about it at all, since an engine rebuild is rather cheap on most.
