How do people get comfortable driving like that? Or is that just acceptable in Europe?

That's tame for Paris riding. I sat at a large round-a-bout there for about two hours watching people ride, amazing drivers.

If you have ever driven in California, where this is legal, it freaks the living feces out of you.  Those guys just don't cautiously stroll by the cars, they fly past them sometimes over taking at around 30-40 mph faster than the traffic.  They even have signs telling you to double check before you change lanes.  Every time I'm there for business I just never cross the lanes in fear I will hit one.

Filtering through traffic (moving and/or stopped) just seems so stupid - for Pete's sake cars already cut each other off...they are not going to be too concerned about a scooter which is not even in a real lane - but splitting them!-
I was knocked off into the middle of traffic years ago by a lane spitter who used to give me a ride to work. Hit a car stopped in traffic with my knee.
People do it....but just seems so dumb. Think of all the warnings we get about living out there on our scoots with cars in our riding safety classes - and then this behavior!
Never will understand the reasoning. Legal, or not (I know France considered passing laws against it)

It should be a 5 year Mandatory prison sentence for ANY sort of reckless driving. Kids in the US can't wait to drive so they can speed about killing people.

I am completely against any/all sorts of reckless driving. In FACT I AM the guy that opens the car door when I see a guy coming up like that. A door cost a couple hundred bucks. Chances are pretty high that a hole will not repeat what he was doing.

Tell me you disagree the next time someone on a bike passes your grand babies at 160MPH

Probably opening the car door intentionally will not only considered beeing reckless, but also as an assault.

Actually in my mind it is attempted man slaughter. It is a privilege to be on the roads, and NOT a right.
If I can stop some random but chunk from either killing some innocent party or inspiring some other random but chunk to follow his lead I will stop them.

I understand your point but I am NOT a bleeding heart type. If I see someone hit a child I strike twice as hard. If I see anyone riding wheelies on the road I block their path. If I see someone getting mugged/molested I pull a gun. I have the track record to prove it.

If trash needs to be taken out I am the guy that will carry the bag.

Sit at home, and chew on razor blades or throw bullets at a wall of nails. I don't care. Bring your stupid crap out side where it can/will cause someone else harm, and I will send you home.

It's people (including lawmakers/enforcers) that do NOTHING that made America the world leader in raising stupid ass punks that think there are no consequences for anything they do.
Maybe just ONE lane splitter or baby shaker will read this post, and re-think what he/she is doing. I am not alone in my views, and I do travel.

Driving recklessly is half the fun on a scooter, I tend to not filter however because drivers are HOMICIDAL as we can all see from Zombie. I will filter if I'm 3 or 4 cars back from a nasty red light or need to turn right. However wheelies are one of the most amazing things ever invented on a scooter. I make sure to aim for little girls crossing the road, too. A scooterist driving a little crazy but paying attention is a much, much, MUCH less dangerous thing than a 17 year old high school girl texting and NOT even looking at the road. I'll drive as recklessly as I feel I can get away with but am 100% in control of my vehicle and aware of my surroundings, and every day see insane drivers in cars just ready to kill someone. And BTW it is a RIGHT to freely travel on public roads no matter how the DMV wants to distort our freedoms.   ;)

I'll go with you on some of that but traveling on public roads is a privilage. Try walking down the shoulder of 95 drunk, or riding your bicycle or even walking sober, and tell the doughnut muncher you have a RIGHT to do so.

Yes you did pay for the road, and yes you do pay greasy pigs to bend the law to their mood but there is a reason for acting civil on public roads. You know this already...

In Germany a fundamental right. That's why we call these public roads.

So, I was saying...what's the deal with that F A T leg shield on the Honda Swing.
Pretty scoot otherwise - just never understood the thick area there on so many scoots.
Sittin' in my driveway = breakin' wind and feeling free!
