need help quick

Cannot remove variator nut on my GT300.
Right hand threads, right?.
Counter clockwise to loosen?.

I also tried to spread the clutch pulley. No go. solid as a rock.
Does the clutch bell have to be removed before the pulley will spread?.

Trying to inspect belt and add Dr Pulley sliders.

Clutch IS tough to spread...but yes it can be spread with the clutch bell in place. It kinda turns to the side (small rotate) as you spread it ....for me anyway. Really have to get a grip on it with as many fingers as possible.

I watched a youtube vid on removing the variator, it was a great vid on how to, can't remember the name of it.

Just go to youtube and look up "gy6 cvt belt change" and a dozen or so vids will come up.  ;)

Threads are normal R hand .....loosen counter-clockwise.
He's holding the variator and loosening the nut here.

I know how to do what I want to do. My problem is the shop where I bought the scoot over tightened the variator nut by about 100 ft-lbs when they replaced an oil seal. Cannot get the nut off.

Used a ratchet, power bar, electric impact, compressor impact. No go. Nut will not come off.
Actually bent my variator holding tool. Will make some hardened steel studs for my variator tool.
Gave up and put it back together.

Next try, I`ll use a long cheater bar and have someone holding the scoot so it won`t tip over.
If that does not work, guess I`ll need to have a new variator nut on hand and cut the old one off.
Worked 1/2 day for nothing because some jack ass over tightened that nut. ***#+^

Boo, Take a step back ...put DOWN the breaker bar!
We've all been there.....a simple job made very difficult by some dumb thing.
Really, try some WD40 or a some kind of nut juice.....DO let it sit over night.
Surely it will come off tomorrow.
If not, then take more drastic steps.

Thanks for the help Stig.
I was working by myself. I used some penetrating oil on the nut and let it set for about an hour or so.
Now that I know what I`m up against, next try, I`ll go bad ass on that thing with a long cheater bar and a new nut in case I have to cut the old one off.
I will need to be extra careful to not damage the shaft, threads, and oil seal.
When I was a young man I worked as a mechanic and trouble shooter for years. I have never seen a small nut this tight. Well, seems like I remember having to cut a nut one time.
Any way, it is very, very, tight.

you could use a little torch to heat only the nut, , not to much because of the alum. variator, best of luck  don.

Thought about that de dee. There is an oil seal behind the variator. Afraid I might ruin it.
Those little oil seals are kinda flimsy anyway.
