Gauges not going back to zero

I had my battery go dead on my DT300. After I jumped it the tac and MPH stop at like 1/2 way up. Very strange??? Any Help???

Did you jump it off a running car?

The voltage spike MAY have fried the IC. Try disconnecting the battery terminals, and shorting them together. While they are together turn on the key.

This MIGHT reset the cluster. Otherwise you may need to replace it.

Yes I did jump it off of a running can......I didn't know that was bad!!!! After reading your post I went out and messed with it. I didn't feel like taking off the whole inside seat again....so I had the bike on a trickle charger and I turned the ignition switch on and off really Quick and it reset it about 1/2 way......so I did it again and it set in back to normal. Thanks for the help!!!!!!!

Excellent!

The reason a running vehicle is bad for jump starting is the dead battery (nike) will trigger the alternator to put out full power. In most cases that is around 100 amps. About 10 times what the bikes systems can tolerate. In electrical translation that equals 1000 times the amount of potential heat energy.

Ok Zombie so if I read you right...then if I have to jump a bike make sure the car is off......

Correct. The jumping vehicle should be off. Actually jumping off of ANYTHING with more power than the maximum amperage the bike can handle is an "at your own risk" sort of thing.

I ALWAYS attach the positives/Negative on the jumping vehicle/Negative to the Chassis of the dead vehicle. This will at least give you a sort of "buffer" when hooking it all up. Staying on the battery terminal of the dead vehicle will allow any potential spike direct access to the electronics, and Fry baby fry.
