Moved from sea level to Denver. Now my agility runs flat.....

Hi Guys, new to this but love my agility so much I needed help.  I just moved and the elevation difference is drastic. Ever since getting here my scoots has ran really flat.  What I mean by 'flat' is its acceleration is noticeably slower, it struggled to maintain speed up hills that didn't give it problems before, and for the first time since I've owned it (4 years) it gave me a back fire pop the other day. I do all maintenance myself and just before the move changed the transmission oil and engine oil. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

At the higher elevation, the air is thinner and probably cooler than the scoot was used to.
You may need to adjust the fuel mixture to get the same performance.

Hopefully, someone smarter than me will explain how to do that on your scoot, because I'm kind of an idiot with anything beyond the idle screw!

Dm is right. You will actually need to replace the main jet w/ one that is 1-2 sizes smaller as well as adjusting the idle mix screw. The first step is to open the carb, and see exactly what size the current main jet is.

It WILL suck if you plan to use the bike at elevation, and sea level. If that is the case I would strongly recommend getting a fuel injected bike that can auto compensate.

Yeah, I didn't even think of that. In the thinner air, a high-flow air filter might make a difference.

What I do, get a large slip in K&N for a car, it will just be a big flat sheet of K&N filter stuff. Cut out the orange paper element from your stock Kymco filter, measure out the correct area of K&N from the sheet then cut and use oil resistant glue or silicone calking to glue the K&N to your stock filter "frame". Works like a charm. Just remember since the K&N filter traps so much more dirt and dust you will need to clean it more often. Cheers!!

..that will give your scoot more air flow, and possibly counter-act the need for a smaller jet.. maybe...

I didn't think about it but 2 one inch holes drilled into the back of the air box cover just might do it. My bike won't run with a full cover on the box. It just floods out.

Drill baby drill!!! They make little plugs with foam to fill in the holes so they aren't just open holes but have mini filters in them. Kinda cool.

That is a cool idea! They also make all sorts of plugs if the idea doesn't help. Those little cardboard drawers at Home Depot or Ace Hardware have all kinds of cool thingyies.

..yes sir, I did.. kymmi would run over 60 gps with that setup.. I believe I was running a 112 jet then though, with a gutted and drilled oem pipe...
