Haven't ridden in a while and need help...
« on: June 09, 2014, 12:08:21 AM »
I haven't ridden my People 150 in quite a while. It's been sitting outside, covered up for several months. I want to start riding again soon. Is there anything that I should do before I start riding it again? Thanks for your help, Joey.

Verify engine oil level.

Twist up carb fuel bowl vent tube (S7860-110), insert a plastic drinking straw, and spray in a few shots of carb cleaner.

Test battery cranking volts.

Check the air pressure in the tires
Check the tires for cracking and tread wear.
If you did not use fuel stabilizer, I would fill with fresh gas and add SeaFoam in the proper amount to the full tank.

Even if it does run, chances are the carb is partially plugged up. To make the bike run the best, rip out the carb and clean all jets and passageways. Also, if you can, make a siphon and get the bad gas out of there, E10 gas does not like sitting around for long.

Okay, so the battery is dead...anyone know where I can get a rather inexpensive 12v battery charger for a 150cc scoot? Any recommendations?
Thanks again, Joey

PS- I'll take some pics and post those soon :-)

If the battery is dead, you need a new one. Less acid batteries don't like being drained, it destroys them.

Thanks for posting those shots of your P150. Brings back some good memories of my first scooter. I really miss it - what a good, solid scooter it was!   :'(

I have another question...is the battery for the 2011 People 150 the same as the battery for the 2009 people 150?

Thanks, Joey

Yep get a YTX9-bs or use that part number to cross reference. Take the foam chunk out of the battery competent to fit that battery (larger than stock)

Okay, I need more help...

The battery came in and I don't think I'll have a problem with installing it.

I know how to check and change the engine oil if necessary.

Tires are fine...

Putting fresh gas and adding sea foam is easy enough.

Only thing I'm confused about is cleaning the carb. Would it be okay to use STP Carb Cleaner in the gas? If not, is cleaning the "carb fuel bowl vent tube" difficult? If you know of any video or picture diagrams that show how to do this, please post link.

Thanks again, Joey

Nothing will remedy a dirty carb but opening it up and cleaning EVERYTHING inside, any Osage that air or fuel flow through. Look up on YouTube "GY6 how to clean carburetor" because the carb on your bike is identical. Just be cautious of how you take it apart, lay everything out on a bench and study it. Clean with carburetor cleaner spray and a very fine metal wire like a strand off a brake cable. Most important thing I've found to clean is the idle jet. Good luck
