Xciting 500 rear tire
« on: June 11, 2014, 04:55:00 PM »
I read through a few threads but maybe some of you can give me your latest opinions on a new radial rear tire for my 500. I want a PREMIUM tire and cost is no object.

What's on there now (With a big staple through it) is a Maxxis 150/70 R14. What about a bigger beefier tire?

Thanks!

They match prices just on the off chance you find a better deal than theirs. I've used them for years.

I installed the Pirelli Diablo 160/70 R14 on my scoot yesterday and rode 145 miles today on a nice run south into Noel, Missouri, with all kinds of roads from Interstates, Highways and curvy 2 lane country roads and the tire performed like it should, with me not giving it a thought.

An observation about the Xciting 500: It is built like a tank! The output shaft from the final drive to the rear wheel is a robust as on my Goldwing. This thing is not a flimsy scooter at all. The job was easy to do and straight forward.

There is one thing I found that I didn't like and that was the 'splines' on the output shaft were dry as a bone!. At 3,500 miles though there was no indication of wear at all. I put Honda MOLY spine lube on the shaft and the rim, so it should be fine now.

Good for ya Sam!

I found like in outboards you have to take certain "low maintenance" areas of the bike apart from time to time just so you CAN get them apart. Greasing the output shaft is just one of these.

The triple tree bearings should be greased once a year, and same for the main engine mount bolts. All those pivot points need to be inspected for wear.
