Dr Pulley weights
« on: June 14, 2014, 06:59:48 PM »
I change my original 8.5 gr variator weights today to Dr Pulleys 8.0 gr sliding ones in my Kymco People 50 2t but that was not a good idea because I lost 5km/h top speed and the acceleration did not improve at all. So if anyone are thinking about doing that. - Don't. or atleast use heavyer weights
The variator is also a restricted original one btw.

You should have read all the Dr. Pulley posts here first They do "act" lighter. What you did was to essentially reduce the weight to 6gm. Way too light for a restricted pulley on an OEM bike. 9.5 0r 10gr would have given the acceleration you expected, and kept your top end speed.

I'll buy your 8's from you. I have uses for them. I can have a set of tens sent to you in a return addressed package.... 16x13 right

Thank you for your offer but I live in Sweden so sending them will be more expensive than the weights them selves. I also might need them in a future project.

Fair enough.

Something you might want to try is filling the center cores w/ JB Weld. Scratching the brass w/ some 80 grit sandpaper will allow it to stick, and add about 2 grams to them.

It's also easy to drill out/remove to adjust the weight.
Good luck, and keep on posting.

If you do get the DrPs dialed in, they are a vast improvement over rollers!!   8)

Possibly installed incorrectly maybe? I agree with zombie that's too light for stock, and a side note why are you trying to tune the weights without taking the restricted boss out? That's the first thing you need to do before ANYTHING else.

The reason I tried sliders was pure curiosity and that it felt like better solution from a engineering point of view. Rollers are only rolling on one side and sliding on the other.
The reason that I haven't removed the boss is that you can loose your driver's license in Sweden if you remove it.

Screw them, will they really ever know? Do they actually check? Technically in my state of your scooter goes over 30mph you need a motorcycle endorsement. You can have a screamer 70cc but as long as you tell the DMV it's still 49cc and goes 30 no one cares.

You're probably right but most of my travel with the scooter is on a small gravel road (5 miles to work) to and home from work so 30 mph are about as fast as I can go anyway. Last week I hit one bird and a few turns later I touched a cow on the run with my right rear view mirror when riding to work in the morning. If I had been going a couple of mph faster I probably would have ended up in hospital. Perhaps a sign from above that I'm going as fast as I should.
A couple of years ago I believe I got my first warning when I was just a few feet away from hitting a wild bore?(Pig) on the same road in the morning.

Well Mike, ... you should probably just leave the scoot as is, and just be happy that you're still alive and kicking.. Sliders are meant to enhance performance in your Unrestricted scoot.. If you can't derestrict it, then you're just pissing money away really...    :-\

I prefer the 13 gauge. It's louder.

"..it's difficult to avoid runaway cows, much less wild boars, I don't care how slow you're going!!"

I guess there is some logic in if I had been able to go much faster then the time I'm exposed to wildlife is shorter and atleast the cow would have been to slow to get up on the road in front of me.
