Transmission oil level mark or volume.

How much oil should I use in the final reduction of my Kymco People 50 2t? 0.12 liter as the manual says or fill up to bottom of the filler plug (about 0.25 liter) as the manual also states. I  know this has been discussed before but I don't believe I have seen an answer.

For my people 50 4t 2007  is 0,180l, this is write on the transmission box, (on service manual write 0,150l. ) . See what write on your transmission and refill not more level.

Nothing written on the transmission casing on mine and it's a 2t 2004 by the way.

Using the "full to the hole" method is WRONG on all Kymcos. I have no clue why they say to do that in the owners manual. Go to a medical supply store or any farm supply store and get a 60cc syringe. Then you can put exactly 90cc of gear lube in. Filing it to the hole is crazy mucho gear oilio. Also I've noticed that they say "look in the full hole to see the level", good luck trying to do that lol.

Really strange that Kymco never corrected it in over ten years when it's obviously wrong in some way . When I bought mine it was filled up to filler bolt so even their own dealers don't have correct information or perhaps they do?

It'll get you down the road, but its not right. If the scooter has a breather attached it will end up sending gear oil into the air box.

Yep, there are two figures listed in my manual
One amount is to fill the transmission after a rebuild. The other is the amount for a normal oil change. Obviously there must be a bit left in there when you drain and add while doing a service. This explains the two different amounts. Some scooters make it easy on you...,"fill to hole".....not the KYMCO folks!

The figures in the service manual are 0.12 liter at first fill up and 0.08 at oil change,nothing illogical about that, but if you follow the owners manual it says that you should fill to the bottom of the filler plug. If you want to do that you have pour in about 0.25 liter (twice as much). Quite a big difference to just leave uncorrected for more than ten years.
When I filled to the bottom of the filler plug the oil came out of the breather hole, after a long ride, and ended up ruining I the paint on the rear rim.

If you think about it, after rebuild there will be ZERO oil in the final drive, after just draining it there will always be a little left over hence the lesser amount street just draining. There are a lot of things wrong in the owners manual. Ever check the service schedule side by side with the one in the actual service manual? The service intervals are totally different. Always go with the service manual, it didn't say anything about filing to the hole or none of that nonsense.

Now I have changed the oil. There were 0.28 liter (9.5 oz) in there. Poured in 0.12 liter (4 oz) new oil so I am really hoping the service manual is right.

For the people 50 it's .09L or 90cc when changing. .12L after you open your final drive case.

I was a bit of a coward so I thought if 0.28 liters did not kill it 0.12 liter would not either. Do you by the way know if the figures for the 4t S50 version differ from mine. According to a german site they claim one should use 0.18 liter.

Just noticed that zero wrote that he has a 4t S50.

Yup the s50 & s200 &p150 are all 180ML. And your right, 120ML should not damage anything on your scoot. The only possible issue with over full gear oil is foaming, and when oil is foamy it does not lubricate. But u wouldn't see that happening with 120ML

If you are only over by that tiny amount, it should be fine. If you see any oil getting into the airbox, you can try what I did on my Super 8 150.
I got a small foam sponge, and put it in the airbox in front of where the breather tube enters. The sponge is just thick enough to wedge in under the housing for the air filter, so it stays in place. Any gear oil that does come through the tube, sprays into the sponge and not all over the inside of the airbox and filter. I haven't had any oil on my air filter since. I simply wash the sponge with dish soap, and dry in out when I do my oil changes.  8)

On my People 50 2T the excess oil doesn't go in to the airbox, it goes out through a breather hole and stains the rear rim. The air filter on a 2T is on the other hand only a oil soaked spunge so there the oil would not have been any problem.
