My first ride on my People 250S was on July 8th. 2008 I bought the scooter in Wichita, KS. and rode it 205 miles the last 105 in a solid downpour. the next 5+ years we had a lot of adventures together met a lot of really good people on two wheels and spent many hours in silent contemplation of God's creation as we moved through it.
That came to an end on May 5th. during a ride on Highway 9 in northern AR. according to the police report I struck a deer or elk. that day and the next 12 were lost to me as I spent them in a med induced coma.
I came to in a hospital in Little Rock, AR. the air ambulance ride there had to short stop in Heber Springs, AR. to top me up 4 units and restart the heart then to Little Rock for 8 more units and another 10 mins being legally dead I woke up only hours before I was scheduled for a surgery to install a stomach feeding tube and had a short conversation with the surgeon who called me a miracle since a massive transfusion and the extended lack of heartbeat is usually indicative of a future (veggie) state. family says the jury is still out on that one. Add to that broken collar bone and Scapula lots of ribs and a broken wrist bone writing hand of course.
I am so glad that I don't have any health insurance the bike insurance payed the 1000 medical rider to the ambulance co left me with a 33,000 ambulance bill and you should see the rest. can anyone say chapter 7?
Since then I have been recovering first there and then home, it was only on Tuesday that I saw the pictures of the People which had been in a tow lot in Northern, AR.
It's pictures told the rest of the story, the sides weren't too bad but the front showed the normal 4" gap between the back of the front tire and the fairing were reduced to zero the frame had folded and I e-mailed the pics to my mechanic who looked them over and said (pass on it) so I signed over the title to insurance co and sent it off in mail.
Whoever ends up with it did OK? the engine was just overhauled this spring new piston, rings, Head, valves. etc. the transmission had a new Dr. Pulley variator and rollers, new belt and new rear pulley assy or clutch. new headlamps 35 and 55 HID sets with custom switch's. bikemaster trugel battery.
I thought I would ride thru the 50,000 mile mark this summer actually I was planning on doing that on it's 6th. birthday. I am so going to miss the old girl.
For my birthday I am planning on riding my wifes old Grand Vista time to get back on a horse even if it is a different one. I suppose it will be my new bike for a while.
I have to go back to work and collect a pay check at some point. Sorry to go on like this but it's hard to let go.
