Underglow lights
« on: July 13, 2014, 12:50:14 PM »
Thinking of adding underflow lights to my scoot, something like this.

http://www.ledunderbody.com/4pc-classic-single-color-motorcycle-lighting-kit-1.aspx

anyone have experience with this? I'm going to be having my scoot mechanic install them. I was wondering if it will be any kind of strain on the electrical system.

If I'm not mistaken any added lights like that are illegal in every state. That being said I have them on my zuma and have never been messed with. I only turn then on once and a while.

Walmat is $18 a pair. White in front, red in back, no blue and I'm not sure about under the bike.

Your safest bet is yellow or amber color. Green or blue cant be used here in Connecticut. If light can be seen from front it has to be whit, yellow, or amber. From rear it has to be red, yellow , or amber. The under light will be seen from rear and front so go with yellow or amber maybe.

I called the state police post closest to me and asked. They were very helpful. In Indiana, you can only use white or amber and the strips have to be mounted where they aren't directly visible.

They are on their way over to verify yours right now. I never knew anyone that voluntarily called the cops. Life is full of firsts...

I would check into it. I know around here its a ticket if we get caught with them under our bike, scoots, or cars.

What I would do is replace all the running lights w/ LED's. Same for the blinkers but you will also need an electronic flasher module. Everything is plug, and play, and well under 20 bucks.
Reason is the OEM stator puts out 35 watts of power continuous, and 60 peak. Your headlight alone draws 35 watts.
Lots of fellas have installed them (light strips) w/ no issue but I don't like the idea of stressing electrical parts.

All the direct replacement bulbs are on Ebay, along w/ the flasher. It would take you less than 2 hours to install everything for a first time doing it.
