Time for something to be done!
« on: July 15, 2014, 04:14:33 PM »
It's been a crappy day from start and it's about to start raining like crazy so I thought I would rant a little about two things that bother me when riding,

1st- is those free-kin traffic signals that do not pick up motorcycles...let alone scooters.  You try to do the right thing with the environment and gas mileage etc...and these signals try to get you killed.  Gadgets don't work and the "energy reading" sensors in the roadway are worthless.  Some say to wait for a few cycles to pass and if your not "acknowledged" to safely go through.  That's not always possible.  Ugh!!!!

2nd-  How about those tar (mac) snakes all over the roads to fill the cracks.  It's like ice skating.  What's the chance they could add a little or coat these with sand for a little traction.  I caught one of these in a turn on a sport tourer and luckily recovered but it's the same result on the smaller scooters too.

I think it's time for us two wheelers (regardless of size) to be acknowledged instead of just being added to statistics.

Any of you guys have these problems where you live/ride?

I totally agree with you on the traffic lights. I've gotten to the point where I have started memorizing which ones around my town will or won't sense the scoot.
Here in Illinois, the traffic laws say that if you're on a bike, and the light doesn't change after 120 seconds, you can legally go through the red light. But, like you said, that isn't always possible depending on traffic.

ABSOLUTELY!  I do the same thing and try to avoid certain intersections...but that doesn't always work.  As for the way the laws are written, I was a cop for 23 years. I am not afraid of explaining myself to a police officer (the majority of them do actually have common sense) ....I am afraid of getting flattened.

Sgt.,

Try looking for Green Light Trigger...I use it and it works EVERY time. Mounts under frame and uses a magnetic feature totrigger the lights...I use the more powerful one

Love ya Bluesin...

Those triggers are Rare Earth magnets. Get yourself one that is about the size of a cigarette pack, and slap it on the frame. It will stay there. Forever.

I did that on bikes twenty years ago. There are no Tr. lights down here. The closest one is in East Point 16 miles east of me. The next closest is in Port St Joe. Another 25 miles.

I hope you were one of the GOOD cops Sarge. We are hatching a scheme to take over the planet here, and really don't need word getting out pre-maturely. Know what I mean? ;)

Were starting w/ Atlantic City but you didn't hear that here. F'n Hate Jersey.

Definitely one of the good guys......I bailed when I saw the job going to sh#@.  Too many cameras, lawyers and cry babies. I am honored to be one of the "old school" guys who never forgot where I came from and always offered a ride home before the consequence.  Good times...good stories....Many guys jumped ship when I left.  As far as Jersey goes, You gotta leave part of far northern Jersey....it's part of my favorite riding loop.  If your looking at Atlantic City, get there quick, it's going under.   On another note, thoughts and prayers need to go out to the friends, family and partners of the young Jersey City cop who was basically "executed"  by the idiot at Walgreens.  What a waste.             Moving on.......

I just saw something on that poor cop in Jersey who got shot. He was 23 years old and a rookie. They put up a memorial for the pig who shot him on the street in Jersey. Not for the cop but for the murderer. Please tell me what the hell is happening in this country?

Great! I insult a Cops home state... Normal for my life...

I'm sorry to hear about your Brother officer. We also don't get much in the way of national news down here. Sort of 100 years behind the times...

Just in my opinion... There are certain people, and their like minded sh** bags that really need to be culled. I have a very dear friend in Yonkers NY who came home to find his mother, and sister were no longer with us. He made it HIS mission the eliminate evil. 27 times in NY the Grand Jury has failed to level a single charge against him. 27 TIMES! It is easy to find out who he is.

I am personally grateful to know him, and honored to share his friendship. Just as much as I am grateful for all the fellas that risk their lives, and make the decisions that need to be made in protecting all of us.
I'm sorry if I offend you Sarge by including you, and yours in the same sentence as my friend. I simply have a strained view of where the lines are. Nothing but respect to you sir, and yes my prayers are with the family/friends of your lost brother.

I'm actually stunned at the moment.
