Speedometer error?

Seems to me that the speedo is very optimistic on my super 8! 40 mph seems like 34-35! What are your findings?

The speedo on almost all scooters reads off by about 10%.
Some say it's a safety thing so we'll all ride slower.  ::)

Went by one of those radar things that tell you your speed the other day (2013 Super8 150). 50MPH on Speedo was 45MPH on radar. There are speedo apps for your smartphone if you gave one of those. Gives you a decent idea of where you are at for reference. In my experience the GPS represented speeds aren't usually off more than 1MPH.

Mine runs about 10% high (so 35 indicated = 31 actual; 50 indicated = 45 actual; etc.). About the same as the other bikes in the stable (Honda Nighthawk 250; Royal Enfield Bullet 500).
