CVT belt life expectancy?

Does anyone have experience on the life expectancy of the CVT belts?
These belts aren't the easiest to get to to check for wear or cracks on the belt, that's why I'm asking.

As you might already know, it depends on your riding style.
I ride very aggressively and constantly @ high rpm, so I check my belt every 3000 miles or so, last time I check it was 9300 miles, and it's still in very good condition.

They will initially shed dust then after cleaning out the dust hardly shed anymore, thats been my experience.

It also really depends on the scooter. It's better to judge your belt by width. There is a spec in your service manual. I've NEVER seen a belt break before it was past it's service limit. Check the width with a micrometer and inspect for cracks or any defects.

I replace mine every few years rather it needs it your not.most of mine stretch out of shape and will hit the starter bendex.good sign to replace belt.

Yup, this will be my "credo" from now on. 
Getting stranded and waiting in an area where there's no cell signal isn't fun.

When I get belts I get 2 at a time. If I have to ill change mine on the side of the rd. Did it once

I just replaced my belt after 1500 Miles but mainly to have a spare also.

experience on the life expectancy of the CVT belts

Geely-Jalon 139QMB 50cc 4-stroke was put into service September 2005 and only used for nearby errands running 25-30 MPH.  Original belt looked to be in pretty good shape October 2009 at odometer 3072 kilometers (1909 miles) when installing NCY variator and 6 gram Dr. Pulley sliders.  Original belt failed August 2014 at odometer 6202 kilometers (3853 miles) . . around 8 years and 11 months service.  The 3 variator slides had disintegrated causing NCY guide wear.  The sliders still weighed 6 grams each.  Cleaned CVT chamber using compressed air, then brushing with a diluted Simple Green solution and rinsing off.  Applied Walmart SuperTech grease to clutch torque driver bearings and starter bendix.  Re-installed the original variator with 3 new slides, 6 gram sliders, and a new Gates Powerlink 669-18-30 belt.  Applied blue thread locker prior to torquing clutch nut to 30 foot-pounds and variator nut to 40 foot-pounds.

Chris: 1500 miles? That's overkill. You should get @ least 7,000+ miles out of a decent belt. Kymco uses Gates (good stuff)

I think it's a good idea to replace your belt based on what your manual suggests.
It won't cost you too much money to just replace the belt, but it might cost you a lot because a broken belt might cause damage to other parts.
On my DT300 manual it says replace every 12,000 miles so it's not too bad for a $80 belt (Mitsuboshi, a Japanese company made that belt for kymco and the quality is really good)

When ever you change your belt, how does everyone go about torque on the nuts? Guessometer or torque wrench?  Hoping for guessometer lol, i hate torque settings.

I just read in the Kymco service manual that the belt should be changed at 10,000 kilometers - 6,200 miles. Does this seem right?
