had an accident today
« on: August 27, 2014, 12:05:57 AM »
Got rear ended at a red light. Jacked me up.
It appears on close inspection the top box was the only thing damaged.
I was not hurt.
Pissed me off.

Glad to hear you were not hurt but sorry about getting hit. Luckily it was only the top case. Those are not to pricy if you need to replace it. Upload the pics when you get a chance.

Glad you are alright. Stopped at a light seems like a very vulnerable place to be. Scary.

Good to hear you got out of that one safely. A friend of a friend of mine has swollen legs and ankles, but she is lucky too. The rear of her bike looks like an accordion. Today I got run off my lane by an impatient pickup truck driver. I wonder how he'd feel if I out his video footage up on YouTube. Wonder why people are in a hurry.

Hope you feel well in the morning! Adrenaline masks muscle soreness.

Glad you are OK man. You fared much better than the motorcyclist that got read ended by an ETOH driver here in CT early in the season. Makes me wear bright colors while riding and added light strips to the rear.

Next morning and I feel fine.
Made a police report.
Officer said it appears damage cost would not be too high. He said they "police" usually do not file an official report unless damages exceed $400.
I have the option of filing an official report at any time if I choose to do so and it would be turned over to the insurance companies.
The young man that hit me ask if I would accept cash for a replacement box so it would not be on his insurance. I agreed.
I have the option and reserve the right to turn it over to insurance if he re nigs on his promise.
I will call my dealer this morning to get information on a replacement.
My box is black and trashed.

Something about this accident I find strange.
My wife rolled into a guy at a red light a few years back. She got a ticket.
Yesterday, the officer did give the guy that hit me a ticket. Go figure.

Update: Called dealer this morning about replacement cost.
Parts and labor $375

Last update: After a lot of BS and running around, police dept 3 times, dealer, my insurance agent.
It comes down to: Other driver was driving on a revoked drivers licenses. His insurance say they will not pay because he cannot have valid insurance coverage while driving without a licenses.
My agent at first said it would be covered on my uninsured motorist. Discovered I do not have uninsured motorist coverage on my scooter. Don't really know how that happened as I have always had uninsured coverage on all my vehicles.
Looks like i'm out in the cold or up the river without a paddle. sh**!

Check your insurance card to make sure you have uninsured coverage.

I did not stop fast. As a mater of fact, we both were setting still. He said he looked back to check his load on his truck and accidently let off the brake and his big Ford truck crashed into me.
I'm lucky it was not worse.

Always a good idea to stay to left side of vehicle in front of you and watch your rearview mirrors for someone coming up behind you so you have a 'way out' . May not have worked where he was stopped initially, though .

My experience is that every thing is fine and dandy with the at fault driver agreeing to pay and then days later the story changes and you actually may have backed into him. Hope he makes good on his offer.

I always try to call the police just to indemnify myself in case the story changes later. This scenario just happened to our park manager when a girl T-boned him and his family while talking on her cell phone, she tried to say they were at fault a day or 2 later and her insurance company tried to side with her. I guess our park manager was nice enough not to tell police she was on her phone as who was at fault was obvious at the time; so he threatened to insurance company that he was going to get her phone records and they backed down.

I too, am glad to hear you are OK. I watch constantly behind, when I am rolling to a stop, when I am sitting there while others are rolling up behind me and am ready to slide into the slot ahead in case the moron behind overshoots. That left of lane Command spot is usually the best for most cases.

Puts a cyclist in a very precarious position.
Don' t know how to protect against it.
If a rider pulls to the right side of the road to try to protect against getting rear ended, the driver behind will probably think you are wanting to pull off the road.
Either way it is a bad situation.

I wear bright colors too. I had on a fluorescent orange shirt. Did not help this time.
About two weeks ago I had a woman pull out in front of me. She had half the road blocked before she saw me. I was watching her close. She looked right then pulled out without looking left.
That day I had on a lime green fluorescent shirt.
