getting a new belt, should I get new rollers/sliders too?
« on: September 07, 2014, 04:15:48 PM »
Ordered a new belt for my `11 DT300i today seeings my old one is done, wondering if I should go ahead and replace rollers while I`m at it.
I have almost 8000 miles on it and I ride at highway speeds 90% of the time due to my work commute.
I know some have switched to sliders, is there any reason I should consider sliders for my riding conditions?

My thought on this, for ~$40 more you might as well while you're in there. 8000mi they will be showing signs of flat spots, and highway driving wears rollers out faster. Sliders perform all around better, and last longer. Say you're cruising at 60 and need to pass, the sliders will allow your engine to rev up faster and the roll on acceleration will feel better. I'm not sure about what weight to get on your scooter, but many people have done i it and should know. If you want stock like rpms from sliders, get +1gr heavier than stock, if you want slightly more rpm get stock weight sliders.

I guess for me, its going to be whichever provides for the best gas mileage, since I use the DT mainly for my long work commute.

I have used stock rollers and 2 sets of Dr Pulley sliders.
If the stock OEM Kymco rollers worked to your satisfaction - and you need reliable commuter transportation with a known MPG & performance - and do not desire more, or less, of anything - I'd stay with the stock Kymco parts. Yep, while you're in there replacing the belt it is a simple matter to replace the rollers (& those little slider pieces). But if you do want to try the sliders - do as B&L says and go w/a 1gr heavier set to equal stock RPMs. (at highway cruising speeds - I would not want my engine to be pulling higher RPMs - causing more engine wear and less MPGs)

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I changed my sliders at 10,000 km. now at 48,500 km. same sliders still good for a long time,. what is  your rpm at 65 mph. mine is 6,000 rpm. with a modified variator ( out side pulley face)  I filed the slider

I had to file the side of the file so it would fit in the ramp,. about 1 mm. off,. wish I new how to send pictures, I am much better with a big hammer,. should have had computers 75 years ago. when I was young,.

Dee at 65mph my rpms are 6000, and at 70 mph, 6500rpms with stock everything the only thing keeping the rpms down is the use of Castrol GTX 20w 50, any other oil and the rpms go up then at 65 mph they`re 6500, 70 mph its 7000 rpms and so on.

you have a good variator before I did my mod to it,. my rpm was 7000 at 60 mph,  and 8000 rpm if I did wot.   I have tried old and new style variators,  and now the modded variator,.
