what's the main positive feature of them? More HP? More Torque? More noise? Better/deeper sound?

600.00$$$$$"S ?? ?? ?? for the first one!!!

The second one we've seen here... somewhere. I think it was 150 US. Google around a bit more. I know it's around for much less. Take the MRS. to dinner w/ the savings.

I answer solely to 700 lbs of dogs. I guess it's about the same feeling.

Just my 2 cents worth of opinion:  "If it does not have a well documented gain on torque or peak power it is a waste of money."

I have only seen/had "mufflers" that have turned out to be annoying louder on longer trips, and looks is very "relative" to the individual observer.  Very, very few aftermarket mufflers are really worth the money IMO.

My saying is: "It is the pilot who makes the iron fly." A better rider is faster, even with less HP.
Invest your money in advanced rider education, and have e.g  fun on a race track.
I have had about 6 individual track-days and will out-run double HP bikes on twisting roads with a stock Super-Moto and "only" 50 HP, and with an original muffler...   ;)

Just my second thoughts of this:

First: Downtown is a great bike but it is built on cost and it shows on some of the components. The exhaust is one of them. You just should not make an exhaust out of material that rusts.

Second: The main problem on scooter road handling is unsprung weight. You have both the engine and exhaust on unsprung side vv. a motorcycle which has these on sprung side. You cant do anything on engine but you can on exhaust.

Third: Imagine how rusty your silencer is on inside after prolonged use when you cant keep the outside rustfree. Reformulated fuel used nowadays creates a lot of moisture when used.

Based on this I argue: Using an aftermarket stainless silencer lowers your unsprung weight at least five kg *and* you can be sure that you do not have rusty metal blocking passages and causing back pressure on silencer.

PS. And it looks a thousand times better than black/brown pig iron + a piece of plastic

I am certainly no scooter expert...(and I am still hoping someone WILL find the magic shock, but:)
Every well grounded scooter-expert writer which I have read says two things about scooters:
1) It does not ride like a Buick because it is a scooter.
2) Factory engineers designed the best exhaust to get the engine's power to the wheel.

A) You can buy prettier shocks but it is still going to ride like your 2 stroke or 4 stroke scooter over bumps.
B) You can buy more chrome, stainless steel and noise but your 4 stroke scoot won't be going any faster.

But, after spending all that $$$....you aren't going to believe A or B.
Most of them say it is better to spend your $ on the best tires and personal gear.....and/or lessons.

Nobody has said that the factory engineers don't know what is best for their engine. The problem here is the cost, economics dictate that they use the cheapest way to comply with the regulations not the best. The aftermarket however can use some creativity!

One of the things about the stock exhaust, they design it for noise suppression first, then cost, then emissions, then performance. They are heavy and don't look or sound that good. They are tuned for all around drivability, good torque and good cruising. Aftermarket exhaust is lighter(usually about half the weight for a good exhaust), sound wayyyy better, look better, and are tuned for higher hp. This hp however may come at a higher rpm so if all you do is sick the exhaust on without making the correct adjustments in the cvt you won't see much of a gain. I mostly use aftermarket pipes for the sound, i love my scooter rumbling waking people up when I leave for work haha. An aftermarket exhaust is in no way a magic bullet, but its a fun mod for the scooter IMHO.
