Back in my favorite village for coffee this w/e and spotted a fellow scooter.
Taking pictures with it when the owner came out of a coffee shop....turns out it is the same fellow who rides the '51 BMW bike into town for coffee.
We had a good chat.....his Reflex has 67K miles on the clock, .....and a few scratches. He said the thing goes like the blazes, and also - the disc brake on the front does some serious stopping compared to the drums of the bimmer. Hence he dropped it the first time he threw out the anchor! He said there's another old Reflex in town ...and he helped the guy get it started when the side-stand switch played up on it. Wiggled some wires and got him going. He asked about brake fluid swap and I told him about using a MityVac to keep things simple. Nice fellow...who looks alot like Santa. Thats a GIVI on the front of his bike.
Pretty cool to talk scooters with another rider.
A couple shots of our scoots meeting ea. other.
Also, while doing some yard work the neighbor who has the pair of LIKE200i's walked by, and we talked scoots.
I asked if he has had it serviced yet. Nope.
Pretty sure he has much more than 600 miles on his scoot (s). (he had that many on his several weeks ago - don't know about his wife's LIKE)
I offered to show him how to do an oil change, and gear oil change...and a valve adjustment, in my garage or his.
I also mentioned that he would not be allowed to pay me for this...as I enjoy working on these scoots...and they are very simple to do this kind of basic servicing on. It was pretty clear he has not spent any time with the owner's manual!
Gave him my phone #.....
Maybe this offer made him leary of dealing with me. Couldn't blame him...in this day in age.
I miss tinkering with my LIKE, and geez I feel sorry for his engines since he's been skipping that first service with the oil changes! KYMCO builds a pretty good engine...and I'm sure his engines are surviving with that old oil in there, still.....
I will be pleasantly surprised if he calls or brings his scoots over.
