Kymco Agilty won't start!
« on: October 27, 2014, 10:24:06 PM »
Hi Everyone!

My scooter won't start.  It makes a clicking nose when I use the electric starter.  And the kick start does not seem to be working.  I used it to start the scooter once, shut it off, tried again with the kick start and the kick won't return to the original position.  It almost seems to be stripped??  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS, I "inherited" this 50 cc scooter from my son.  I have so much fun riding it and people here ask me about it all the time when I go shopping.  I'm having serious withdrawal from not being able to ride.  Help please.

New battery. Or charge up the one you have.the battery has to have good cranking amps.to starte the bike.and to kick start you should do about 3 soft stroks following by one big kick.

kick won't return to the original position
Parts diagram.  Note the importance of "pre-loading" in this video . . rotating to apply spring tension before meshing gears.

Check battery cranking volts and valve clearance.  Also change engine oil frequently.

Have you verified fuel flow to carb and tested spark?  How long since the carb jets were cleaned?

Also check the starter relay. If the battery is charged the relay may be bad.
Simply use a wire to jump across the large wires in the relay. If it cranks it is a bad relay.

repair the kick start FIRST.

You can clean the relay and see if that helps.

I would say maybe just import the data, then get the users to come back and make a fresh account.

:'( Put the charger on, and it still won't start.  Still hear the clicking noise.  Tried the soft kicks, but the kicker isn't returning to "original position" anyway.  Will try the springy thingy.  I changed the oil in May 2014 and again September 2014.  Looks ok.

Where is the starter relay?  Does the "CDI" have anything to do with this?  Thanks for replying folks!

To find the relay just hit the button, and follow the clicks. Take out the seat, and the seat box to make that easier.
The cdi only controls the spark timing so no...

It's an easy job to replace the relay. You can actually use a Bosch 30 amp relay that costs about 10 bucks. You do have to remove the factory relay plug to do this. If you need help sorting that out just ask.

To test this take 12 volt wire and add it to the red wire on your starter.then touch it on the battery to see if your scoot turns over.
