best glove or mitt for winter scootering??
« on: November 03, 2014, 04:49:54 PM »
I'm using a silk liner under leather gauntlet style glove....but this seems good at 45mph for about 30 mins only before my cold hands bring me to a stop....at 0 to say 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
I can deal with every other part getting cold....but need to find a better solution to the frozen fingers.
Are leather mittens warmer than gloves?
What silk, wool, leather combo works the best?
No, don't want to go to electric gloves, yet.
Thanks much for your info

Attempting to elude the laws of thermal physics is a pointless exercise in futility.  Insulated mitts will only delay the inevitable.

Bought some from a scooter shop last year....but found my big hands could not safely find the controls....like horn and hi-beams, brakes! etc. Never used them. H_llsbells if I knew where I put them I'd mail them to you for naught. (I just looked.....they could be anywhere out there in the garage)
Try to buy them local, so you can see if they'll work for you. Sure are a lot of Europeans using them!

Well, yes - but a lot of those are snow-proof fabric. I need leather in case I ever off'' the scoot at speed.

Something windproof.

I use thinsulate hunting gloves and they generally work.  They are thicker than motorcycle gloves which does make operating switches a bit more difficult but I've found no problem working the throttle and brakes.

My only issue is that they are not gauntlets.  So wind does get into the jacket.  I'm in the market for winter gloves to so I'll be watching this thread too.

Yes, can't get in and out easily to flip mask, find switches, etc. Bought some, can't use them.....hands too big?
Looking for some leather mittens, to wear over slik and wool liners.

I got some Tuscano Urbano muffs for this winter, I will definitely use them but I know EXACTLY what you mean STIG. I find myself not using my turn signals because it's awkward to find the switch, and to flip the visor up/down. They are REALLY friking warm and comfy tho, no soggy mildew gloves. It's a trade off I'm willing to make tho. I've had $150 "waterproof" gloves and at 30oF my fingers get cold and if its poring they get wet in about 30-45 minutes, I also HATE the feeling of using my controls in super thick gloves, so I figure for all the trade off's the Muffs are a pretty good $50 investment for the winter.

I just purchased a pair of Tucano Urbano Handlebar Muffs. I will let you know how the Neoprene Muffs work in addition to the gloves when I receive them from the UK.

When you get them, try setting them up without the inner plastic supports, i found them to work better without them. Also since here in Portland the weather fluctuates i did not use all of the pieces to permanently install them because I have to be able to take them off at a moments notice.
