2015 Yamaha Smax vs 2015 Kymco Like200i

What do you guys think about the new Yamaha scooter coming out to really compete against the PCX150 but in body it competes against the Like200i?

To me it's better ride and big dealer network that would make me buy this scooter even through it cost $1000 more for it.
2013 Like200i since Dec.2013. NGK CR7HIX Iridium Spark Plug, Givi37L Top Case, Royal Purple 10-40W Syn Oil, Lucas 75-90W Syn Gear Oil, Michelin City Grip Rear Tire - 130/70-12, and Michelin Bopper Front 120/70-12 Tire. 5,100 as of Oct.2014

With regards to styling, in comparison to the PCX, I like the flat floor on the Yamaha without the center hump the PCX has. I prefer the flat face cowling of the LIKE/People/Vespa over the motorcycle cowling of both the PCX and Yamaha.

Will I look at it as a replacement or additional scooter? Oh heck yeah.
I chose the Like as a first scooter based on price, quality, style, price (yes, I wrote price twice) and uncertainty about whether it would be a passing novelty or not. Based on all of those concerns, it would still be at or.near the top of my list. Now that I know more of what I want, I would consider looking at the Yamaha as well as the SYM HD200 or upgrading to the People 300.

The Yammi will have the Like for lunch all around.

As far as the dealer network thing it's overrated. First most cycle dealers don't give scoots their due. Been there. But more obvious is that most scooters never leave the selling dealers airspace. Just the way it is.

Now as far as I'm concerned the SYM 171cc motor is the best in the 200cc class. Poor thing is soooo primitive. Gets its juice thru a carb of all things. Has to stop with just a pair of big disks, no ABS. It gets "only" 70 mpg and there's  no gauge to tell you, you'll need simple math lol. All the while doing 74mph/GPS.

Did I mention it starts in all weather with the first jab of the starter. Oh a HD/RV200 can be had for a grand or more less than the Yammi. It will eat the Yammi up.

That said the Like is a "looker" even if a bit pokey.

I like it, although it still has too futuristic/sporty of a look for me.  The retro look is what drew me to my Like; just like my Metro.
Why lose weight, buy more horsepower......

Me too. Really wanted the Metro or the Vino..... sat on both at the dealership....but the salesmen and the wife and my kids drug my 6'3" body off of them both! So, the retro Like200i it was.....

There's no denying the Yamaha technology wise is superior to the Like, but to me a scooter isn't a scooter unless it has the classic look of a Vespa or Lambretta. It's a quirk in my thinking, but I love the classic look.

I'm always shocked when I work on the HD200 and drive it, super fast little engine. They actually tried in that bike to squeeze all the power they could. 4 valve setup, large intake and carb, free flowing exhaust. On most of the Kymco scoots they try for economy and the such. EVER single HD200 that comes into our shop has a rusty cooling system, they designed that part of the bike horribly. But that thing would be a dead tie up to about 60 with a Kymco 250. I think it's sad they call the Like a "200", they should have stepped up and put a lager throttle body, stroked crank and actually gotten 200cc out of it, and they also cheeped out on not doing a 4valve setup, but thats where the price reflects the machine.
2002 Kymco B&W 300; MRP 78MM "300CC", Naraku cam, Yoshimura rS3 exhaust, 17g Sliders, Yellow torque spring drilled airbox, stock carb #115 main #40 pj.

2001 "Yamaha" Zuma AKA MBK Booster; MHR OverRange, Dellorto 19mm BHBG, Polini "big" intake, RS-3 Rear shock, Stock cylinder.

you are right, I don't see why they put 200i on the scooter and really have a 161cc or163cc engine.....maybe just so they can put it one step above the 150cc class :(
