My New Kymco Xciting 500

Just picked up an 07 Kymco Xcitiing 500 with 6100 miles for $1800. I'm stoked. It's blue and has a little few things that need to be fixed, muffler guard and front brake lever. Does anyone know if KYMCO sells key blanks? and shutter key blanks? How much are they? How does the Shad 48 top box mounting work? Do you have to buy a mount kit with the box? I will use this scooter as my weekend ride!

Look at #16, says you need a top master. Than if you have a SH48 it will come with a Universal Mount, that will mount to the Top Master, the SH48 will fasten onto and off of the Universal Mount.

If you have to order any of this, be forewarned SHAD USA is not the quickest with getting any of this out but it is worth the wait and you only have to wait once.

Ask the closest dealer about keys and such. The shad rack and box are easy to mount. The directions said to loosen/or take off bolts/screws that hold the front of the grab bars? No need to do this. Just remove and replace rear bolts with the longer bolts included in kit. Hole job is 5-10 minutes at most. I have an 07. Ask former owner if carburetor has ever had CV diaphragm replaced? They will tear with time and cause a very lean engine. If ever your engine losses power and or will not go over 50 mph no matter throttle position. This will be the problem. Easy fix. Snap off plastic carb cover under seat. Remove cap and replace diaphragm. Watch out for the needle and spring popping out. Remove them and put back into new part the same way they came out. Spread a little grease down into the top grove of the carb that the rubber part seats down into if it will not stay in place. Put cap back on and ride.

Thank You! So far no issues with the carb. I plan to ride every weekend as an alternative to the Burgman. The Xciting is so different from both Burgmans.

I would think it had to be replaced by now? So it should be good for several more years. I'm 5-9 and the bike sets me perfect. The burg 400 is to low. I find myself pulling on the bars to set up straight all the time, and this wears me out. With the 14 front & 13 rear tire the bike is very ruff to ride on a bumpy road. Almost jolted me to death in some area's. The 650 is great, but I just can not handle the $ cost. My father just bought a new 2013. I told him to get a 13 or 14 because the MPG was improved by 15%. He get's low to mid 50's all the time. It turns about 4000 RPM at 65-70 or so. Wish my x500 did the same. He loves it! He said if he knew about scoots, he would have bought one years ago and not triked his harleys. Would have saved him mucho $$$$.

My bike has issues idling in the cold. Cold being near single digits. Is this normal? Also have you installed an plug for heated gear on the bike. Is the charging system capable of handling it?

Cold weather will require mixture adjustment. It's a pita on the x500 because the mixture screw is on the bottom of the carb not the side. I think factory is 3.5 turns out,i may be wrong. Also the x500 has a great charging system that should be more than adequate to run heated gear, just don't get like 75w stuff stick with 50w or lower.

2007 has a carb. Pop off plastic carb cover under seat. There is a idle nob you can screw in or out to adjust idle. I think in/clock wise raises the idle? U have more juice than latter models do to not having to power elec fuel pump, but elec system is not really very powerful. Maybe a vest, but I would check out-put of system before I started to buy expensive electric clothing. Charging system is via stator, not a true alternator. Don't push it or u may be stranded with a dead battery.

Thank You for your advice. I raised the idle today. I noticed that it was very high after cruising around so I lowered it to 1500 rpm. The bike ran great. I also installed a pair of tucano urbano handlebar muffs. The muffs work good deflecting wind off of your hands. I was pretty stoked riding to church then around before returning home. I also spoke with a local fellow Kymco rider and he told me the same thing as both of you mentioned. I have a project with this bike. Restoration and learning. Thank You!
