snow on the way.
« on: November 11, 2014, 03:22:56 AM »
The weather man says  its going to be in the 20 the next few days with snow on the way. I need to decide if I ride all winter or store the new scoot.

Ride and get some heated gear! I live in Denver an it got down to 22 F on my commute home. Took the surface street and enjoyed the ride until the last fifteen minutes. Good luck.

Something about the first snow of the year I love and look forward to, same with the first crisp ride of the season.

I went for an 80 mile breakfast ride yesterday on my Xciting 500 and it was over 70 degrees and absolutely beautiful.

Today, it's 24 degrees out:(

Rode home in Denver late afternoon at 19F.  Cold hands, but the real problem.....  Scooter barely started.  Temperature dropped from 62F at 10am to 19F by 4pm.  Scooter has a fresh oil change of Castrol Actevo 10W40 part synthetic.

Any suggestions?  Can I go 5W30 and should I go straight synthetic?

FYI, a 2009 Agility 125 with a new (since May) battery.  Couldn't kick start it, only electric starter.  Once started, it really didn't want to run at any throttle setting for a few minutes.

Im pleasure cruising right now, so mine went easily down the basement stairs on a wide ramp. Storing the scooter now at room temp as the furnace is in the basement and all the HW pipes keeping things warm.

Cranking volts?

I think it just needed to warm up. Carburated bikes do that.

I live in Syracuse, NY, and we got our first snow here yesterday and last night. Only a dusting, but it's time to put my scoot away for the winter. I'm 70 and on blood thinners, and can't tolerate the cold like you younger folks. I'll change the oil, stabilize the gas, plug in the Battery Tender, and cover her up till next April. All you hardy folks, be careful in the snow and ice. Watch out for other drivers, especially the ones inexperienced or nervous about the conditions. Drive safely and defensively and hopefully I'll be joining you on the road again next spring.

I had the pleasure of getting off work at seven am on November first to find my scoot covered in almost five inches of snow with it still coming down.  Besides getting it started,  my only real complaint was the snow melting then trying to freeze on my helmet shield! Everyone at work thinks I'm crazy.
Almost...at...speed...limit... Aww, brake lights..

It's Friday and I got to ride my Burgman home after three days of snow and ice covered roads. I was happy. The traffic brought my mileage down to 43 MPG. Oh well next snow storm tomorrow. 2 inches. Denver
