Yes, synthetic is better but  not necessary......and, it is a scooter , so it is supposed to ride like that!
And, yes, you can stay with the same heat range for the iridium NGK plug.

No apologies necessary....4 strokes don't use olive oil any more and the smoking should clear itself in a couple of days.

  I would love to flush my tires with thousand palms air, and get rid of the artic air,. 
and I use visine for my blinkers, works for me!!!
