Electric gloves or grips??
« on: November 13, 2014, 02:00:13 AM »
Now that I have a larger scooter I am venturing further and on faster roads.....and have decided that I might be needing some better hand warming for these winter rides (down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit, some days).

Do I want to install some heated grips, or buy some electrically heated gloves?

I don't like wind screens - so the wind blast on cold days I can deal with - but when my hands ache the fun starts coming to an end. Tried bar muffs, don't like them.
So, which way - electric gloves or electric grips?
Thanks for sharing your experiences with either....
Ride safe.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Electric gloves all the way. Our western powersports rep stopped by with some LiPo powered gloves, I was drooling for sure. Heated grips can only do so much, if it's less than 30 degrees out your going to be wearing thick enough gloves that you won't even feel the heated grips, and they don't touch the tops of the fingers. The really nice heated gloves ( granted they are $150+) have heater coils wrapping all the way up and around each finger. This will be my next purchase this winter, but I just bought a $600 full riding suit so they'll have to wait!!

My ten years of experience say go to with heated gloves. I rode on Monday in 17F weather, hands were toasty. I have a heated jacket and gloves from Gears. They're a lot of options now. Heated Grips are good, but don't really heat the hands, they keep the handlebars warm. Good luck!

Electric gloves powered via scooter, I use the electric jacket also. After you have the gloves you will wonder why you waited so long, I think they pull around 22 watts.

I use Firstgear jacket and an old set of Gerbing gloves, the jacket is the lower 65 watt (instead of 95 watt) so when I ride two up on the motorcycle we have power for two sets, the lower wattage jacket works fine.

Stig,

I use something similar to this with a Zippo hand warmer. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000SOQ87W/ref=twister_B0049HW2YW

Should try those covers called bark busters[?] or similar. Keeping the wind off will let a good pair of gloves do their job. Bing a pic of a new Kawi KLR 650 to give you an idea. Concentrate on the brake/clutch levers.
