Downtown 300 Feels weak after service
« on: December 06, 2014, 07:32:55 PM »
Hello  all ,
I have downtown 300 2014 . ive reached 10000 and done the full service (a bit late ... when I was on 11000km). now after the service it feels like the scooter is weaker... it has the same full speed but it takes longer to get there... aolso the rpm has changed... (if I used to be on 140kmh on 8rpm now im on 7.5) . it feels like somehow it has less power when starting from 0kmh and the acceleration from mid speed (110) is very slow compared to what it was...

all the parts are original (from the service) . where did I go wrong? did anyone else had this problem?

thanks for youre help

You should list what you changed. New belt? New air filter? What oil you use? Etc. Double check your oil is right in the middle of the hash marks on the dipstick over-full will feel sluggish. If you installed a new belt that'll make it feel sluggish composite l compared to a worn belt, and also explain the lower cruising rpm. Idk we need to know what you changed at 11,000mi. Did you check your tires as part of that service? Low tires will eat up power.

The belt makes sense, are you 100% that the rollers are the original Gram? A new belt most of the time will make the bike feel more sluggish than your used to, when they ware skinny your bike revs higher, when you put a new belt on its like installing heavier rollers.

I don't know how much g on the rolles (I went to my local garage and he did it "by the book") . it feels much weaker... u think the belt is the reason? do I need to wait 200?500?1000? km until It will go back to what it used to be?

Yeah its normal with installing a new belt to feel a little sluggish but by the sound of yours the rollers may be to heavy also. Did you check the part number of the belt he put on? There are too many variables. I forgot to ask, did you do the work and just get the parts or does he work on it? One thing I can think of, if he used a Gates belt instead of OEM Bando it can act funny. My B&W feels like total crap with the "correct" Gates Kevlar. I know you just got those new parts but you should order a set of Dr. pulley sliders in the correct size and weight (consult other 300i owners for recommended weight). It's a cheap investment and they last 2x as long as rollers and the performance gain is noticeable.

Checked tyre and they are pretty high (30/32)

Are you sure they didn't tinker around with the fuel injection?  Richer or leaner can give you the same poor performance if it deviates from the base line what you had before.

Otherwise  I agree with all other suggestions regarding belt and weights.  The culprit is probably rather in the belt (width) than in the weights, if the correct rollers weight has been used.

No Dr pulley is from Taiwan, you can order them from many different sites. You want 20x12 Dr pulley sliders, search the forum for what weight people like, i haven't owned a dt300. You can get them on eBay or anywhere. The Dr pulley sliders enable the variator to open slightly more getting a tad bit more top speed, but more importantly they slide with less friction than rollers so the variator works smoother and shifts better.

I have a 2011 DT. 53,000 km.  the belt # is OK. should be made by mitsuboshi,  good for 20,000 km.  if you can check the width of your belt it could be 25.2 mm. x 1004 mm. with a 30 degree pitch ,.  I have ordered 3 belts so far and they are 24 mm. wide, you may have got a wide one by chance,.  that will give you lower RPM in all speeds,.  but the top speed is the same, I got mine up to 150 kph at 7,500 rpm.  but I can cruise at 120 kph. at 6,000 rpm. , with a modded variator extend the slope for the sliders 1/4 ",.  and I use dr. pulley sliders  20/12  15 grams. if you want more go use 14 grams,. got 20,000 km. on the sliders and they look like new.,  enjoy your scooter as much as I DO ,. ride safe

Im going on 13K miles and have 12g rollers.  I know most will say it's too light but it runs fine.  I will be replacing the belt in the next couple of weeks.

I think 6K RPM at 60 MPH.  Here's what I have:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dr-Pulley-Sliding-Roller-20x12-12g-8pcs-for-KYMCO-Downtown-300-ie-4T-scooter-/231112940874?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35cf679d4a&vxp=mtr

I have never tried lighter sliders ,. I always felt I was revving to high at speed,.  7 to 8,000 rpm ,at 60 to 65 mph.that was with 14 gram sliders,  so I extended the ramp for the sliders 1/4 " and made sliders 21 / 12 x 15 grams, I got 21/15 sliders and sanded them down to 12 mm and poped the Wts out, and installed the Wts in from the 15.5 rollers,. and sanded them down to 15 grams,. now I can ride at 75 mph. at 6,000 rpm.  top speed was 144 kmh. now it is up to 150 kmh.  I will have to check that speed with a GPS.  to find true speed,.
