Stator problem, and what I can do about it?

So, i  own a 2005 agility 125 that I bought last july, and a mate is borrowing it for the moment until he buys a Suzuki burgman.

I have had replaced the spark plug, coil, lead, changed the oil, and placed a new battery in with new fuse holders (the previous owner used god damn aluminium foil on broken fuses, BOTH OF THEM!!).

My big problem now, is the stator is now apparently worn out. I've had starting problems before, hence the repairs, and got it back from the mechanic who specialises in these scooters.

So, picking it back up tomorrow, after it sitting for a week in the shop for a new stator to be "found", but ordered one on eBay for ~$60 AUD, and will be here in the next week.

Big question, is the stator easy to swap out for a new one or is it best to leave it to the mechanic? I do have 60% knowledge on normal car repairs, and fix the Jeep nearly every month (bye bye pay check, oh how I loved thee...)

The Stator is actually fairly easy to install, the only special tool you need is a flywheel puller. I would be hesitant about the shops diagnosis though. Is the bike hard to start because the battery gets weak or does it crank over just fine but won't start. If its the latter then I'm afraid the mechanic might have mis-diagnosed the problem. Have you cleaned and properly adjusted the carb up ?

Cranks well, but just doesn't turn over. And the battery was kind of flat under load.

Crank the bike with a volt meter on it, voltage shouldn't drop below 10 at the very very lowest. There is always the chance your pulse coil went bad and the cdi won't fire. There is a test procedure in the manual all you have to do is take the seat out.

Another "maybe issue"... The stator from Ebay HAS to say it's for a Kymco. Not for a GY 6.
The harnesses are different on the bikes.

The Kymco harness sends the 250 ac volts to the rectifier, and the GY 6 sends the ac volts to the cdi.
Double check.

update: just got her back from the shop, dude decided on waiting a few days to buy his so will be sitting for about 2-3 weeks out the front.

will double check later on today, plus the guy has a "or best offer" deal going on that makes me wonder if its worth it to change the pins around in the plug.
