new pipe
« on: December 29, 2014, 06:19:53 PM »
Just installed a performance pipe that came with the bike when I bought it used. Last owner said it ran good.with it. Anyway installed it and now bike revs at 12000 + and only goes 65km/h. I am guessing I need to upjet but have no jets right now. Carb and air is stock with 92 jet. Would drilling a few holes in air box help. Any suggestions?

I'd save any definite answers to be from the guys that really know,  but what I would say is that your rollers are putting you above the rpms you need to be. Odd if you were just on a stock pipe...
What weight rollers are you using?

Hmm.  I run the stock pipe,  fully clipped,  with a few holes (not suggested,  mine came with them)  and just went up to a 95 jet.  I may need to go higher.  I'm running 9 gram rollers,  top speed average 42mph gps, past the 80 kmh on the speedo.  That's at about 7500 rpm.  What rpm did you're stock pipe hit?

Just a thought,  does the pipe hold pressure?  If it's cold,  started,  and hold your hand over the outlet it should die, or try to,  and let out a pressure when you remove your hand.
Don't attempt it hot,  even with a towel.  My dumb a** almost caught fire thinking the towel was resistant enough...

Weekday brand and model of pipe? Some are designed to work at 12k+. Done are designed for 70cc kit only. You HAVE to upjet to use that pipe, your bike will get damaged without more fuel, especially if your revving it to 12k. What other mods do you have?

I will try this. If it holds pressure then what? I think.it's a technigas trek r pipe but.it's a.guess no markings on pipe. It's about three weeks til my jets arrive. So I either go back to stock pipe or some other solution like perhaps air box mod with needle clip adjustment? I just got he bike a week ago from.inspect the only other mod is performance clutch and bell. I have ordered m4 jets I hope those are the right ones for stock carb. The sizes I got are 95,98,100,105,110,115. Also coming in parcel is roller tuning kit and contra springs three different stiffness. This is my forth super 9 I also have a bws r. I will post a picture of all the bikes soon.

Not trying to hijack the thread, guys,  but quick noob question

Will bolting on a performance pipe jump the rpms a drastic amount,  such as 8k-12k?

Like i said before, depends on how the pipe was designed. They are "tuned" for specific rpm so once you put the pipe on your engine will try is hardest to be in the powerband. With 7g weights in shocked it revs to 12k without stiff contra. You CANNOT make up for lean jetting with the needle, the needle hardly effects WOT, only the main jet does. And modding your airbox will only lean it out further. If your 50cc still the next is to aggressive for the stock cylinder. If your getting 80kph with the stock pipe you should be pretty stoked about that!

I see,  thanks.  Sorry for putting any possible misinformation!  Just been trolling the forum and thought I'd put my two cents in.
Good luck on the kit.  I'm planning on one soon.

I didn't read anything past here...

This just makes me laugh... Perhaps the "performance pipe" is a piece of crap, and the OEM pipe is the real performer here.
Also the 90 main jet is one that has been swapped out already. The oem jet is 78-80.

That's more like it. Take one thing at a time, and dial it in. The 98 main is rather large... I assume you still have the pipe on there. What kind of rpm are you spinning w/ the 9.5 gr?
