Activating the front turn signals

I was told the wiring and bulbs are already installed on the front turn signals (in the fascia) and just need to hooked up. The signals on a stalk mandated in the US leave a lot to be desired.

Has anyone hooked up these factory signals?  Any tips?

I left the turn signals where they were, but put white LEDS in the European turn signal location to match the lower LEDS. I don't think  it would be hard to just re-route the wires and move the turn signals if desired. I believe someone on this forum has done it. Check all through previous posts and I think you'll find your answer.

I did mine and I think it works and looks great. Hardest part is removing the plastic cowling - just take your time and be very careful not to break any tabs.

Everyone in the US has done it, except those that didn't .

The bulbs are not there nor the sockets. You have to buy anything that will fit. You can re-use the factory bulbs from the stalks, or replace them w/ LED's.
IF you go the LED route you will also need an electronic relay (3-5 bucks on Ebay) or your lights will flash like a disco ball. (way too fast).

It's a good idea IMHO to replace all the bulbs w/ LED's to save wear on your battery, and charging system. They draw sooooooo little that the entire bike stays brighter, and expendables last longer.

Zombie, how long are you leaving your turn signals on?  The amount of time they are typically used requires very little wattage. All that is needed are the correct BMW bulbs. The international sockets are already there. Converting to LEDs is not necessary, unless the OP just really wants them.

I drive like an old guy. I put my blinker on when I leave the driveway, and don't turn it off till I get home in two to three days.

Nooooo Most of us are fine w/ incandescent bulbs. Rush Limbaugh assured us of that.

I converted to LED's after YEARS of being pulled over for "faulty lights". Now they only pull me for either the shotgun on the handlebars, or the blood trail behind my bike ("littering").

On the movie 150 the front sockets are not installed, the rears are all there even the bulbs. Haven't seen what it takes to get them going but will probably come spring. You guys know there's LED bulbs to put in place of the standard incandescent bulbs, plugnplay and they reduce current draw to help out with other add ons. They're brighter and faster response time.

Ity's all plug, and play Except for the blinkers. They require a 5.00 electronic flasher relay thet you can get at any good auto parts or on Ebay.

The oem flasher relies on amperage to charge a capacitor, and trigger the relay. The LEDs do not draw enough amps to charge that Cap. so the lights will not blink at all.

The OEM relay is located under the front fairing. You can locate it by listening to its clicking. Simply swap it out for the electronic version.

The cool thing in going to LEDs is you now have excess power to run a tractor trailer air horn. That will get you noticed.

So are the US turn stalks LED?  I think the rear turn signal are LED, are they not? The sockets for the front cowl turn signals are there and they are wired.  Do these sockets take the same bulb as the US stalks?  If so, can I just add the bulbs? If the stalked turn signals and the rear signal are regular bulbs do I need to replace them with LED's in order to use LED's in the cowl?  Crap, the more I write the more questions I think of.
If the US are not LED, can I just add regular bulbs to the cowl sockets?

I got lost... No. There are no LED bulbs in the US bikes. When you pull out a bulb (oem) there is a number stamped on the base. Use that number to look up the replacement in an LED version.

The stalk lights might have the same bulb as the cowl. I don't know this one...

Easiest thing to do is compare the sockets.

If you swap out LED's for the blinkers you have to get the electronic relay. It's a no brain swap. Simply splice the wires using crimps. Shrink tubing type are the best, and you can find these at ace hardware or most electronic shops/ebay.

If you ever noticed your blinkers get slower at stop lights it is because they draw so much power. LED's avoid this completely plus they last forever.

Oh... If you just want to add the cowl bulbs... LED's will work fine. The rest of the system can stay as is. In fact you can swap every bulb in the bike to LED's with no other mods needed. It's just the blinker set that needs the new relay.

There is a two wire plug, and play if it matches your socket, and there is a three wire crimp in type for everything else.

If you get the BMW lights that's mentioned in the link it's plug and go no need for relays.  If you take the headset apart the rear comes off not the front plastic around the headlight.  To remove the mirrors loosen 17 or 18 mm nut under the rubber seal.  I spent 30 minutes trying to find a thin wall socket for the nuts under the plastic caps on the mirrors. It will make sense when you do it.  Hope I never burn out the headlight at night it's not a 3 minute beside the road job.

Good point on the mirrors-I tried the same thing with the thin wall socket search, then I lifted the rubber and, Duh!
