  I originally posted in the GTI300 section, but thought I would seek help from ALL forum members. I have a 2012 GTI300. I want to change the headlamp. I have removed my Biondi and factory windshields, my mirrors, and I believe all the screws and nuts holding the handlebar cover in place. The problem seems to be the tabs holding the two cover halves together. They are very tight with no apparent give at all. Am I missing a step or are they always this tight. I don't want to break anything if possible, but if I have to, I will buy a new rear cover and take a dremel to the old one. Any help or suggestions out there???

The halves have a square "U" shape tab on one half, and a wedge shaped "tang" on the other. They are tight, and they are a bear to remove without breaking them.

Using a blow dryer to warm the plastics will help prevent breaking them. The tool I go for first is always a thin stainless butter knife.
Sort of get it into the end of the plastic, and feel along. As you get to one of these clips, lift the knife upwards to skew the plastics, and hopefully they will pop open at each clip.

The blow dryer is the real star here. Even at 60* f the plastic tends to break. 90 - 100* f is all you are looking to get.

       I have a heat gun. Do you think that would be too hot and melt the plastic?  Do you know how many clips there are? It seems like the screws would hold the two halves together pretty well anyway.

A few things I found that helped when taking apart my Super 8 was:

1. Go slowly.
2. Your eyes will tell you a lot as you pry on sections of the faring. You'll be able to see whats moving away from the other piece and approximately where the next tab is.
3. Work from say the top down until you locate a tab and then stop and work from the bottom up. This may help with the stress on parts.
4. Just because you've located a tab doesn't mean it's time to unhook it. Try to locate all tabs on a piece and then decide how it is to come off.
