New super 8 150 motors

Does anyone know where I can find a new or rebuilt motor for my Super 8 150? I have the 14 inch wheels and cant find a motor anywhere other than the dealer.

Welcome to the forum Louanne,

The only place to get one is Kymco or call around to several scooter shops to see if anyone has one. Guessing you did that already...

You can replace yours with a new GY 6 150 which is a copy of the Kymco, which is a copy of a Honda, which Kymco made for Honda. Got that??

The only thing you have to do is take the stator out of your engine, and install it in the new one. The engine will then be plug, and play. The whole job is under 3 hours for someone that has never done it before, and a good scooter mechanic can do the work in about 1/2 that time, including road test.

Post up if you need help, and someone here will walk you thru it all.

Kymco does not sell "crate motors". Why do you need an entire engine? Cracked case? You won't be able to find a new engine for your bike, only motors out of wrecked bikes even then those are rare.

Care to share what happened to your motor? Might be a lesson there for all of us. If it were me I'd go with the suggestion by zombie if it's practical money wise. Was it abuse or a bad motor from kymco?

A GY6-150 long-case or GY6-B variation may be options . . but unknown if axle is compatible with Kymco rear wheel.  Flywheel differences.

That's a good read tourtise. It is of no concern here tho. The stator from the kymco will mount, and the flywheel from the gy6 will remain in place.
The second option is converting the Kymco to an AC fired system using the gy6 stator, and converting the bikes rectifier, and CDI to the GY6 versions. I simply didn't want to muddy the topic by adding info that is not really needed. Or scare the OP with spaghetti wiring nightmares, and big words like regulator/rectifier, and capaciitive discharge ignition module

The axle is also of no concern because it is an exact copy of the kymco. I have a pile of China/Kymco rims that all interchange.

He might just have a blown top end and not know how cheap it is to rebuild rather than buy a motor. IF kymco even sold crate motors they would be $1500+

I did originally post that we would all be happy to help w/ sourcing, and rebuilding but I removed that part.
I just assumed they already had that conversation.

One should never assume tho... Good point, and that offer is of course on the table ;)

Have you actually done a GY6 swap into a Super 8? 

I ask because I read somewhere else where someone tried to put a GY6 into their Agility 125 and he said it wouldn't fit because the engine mount was located in such a way that it wouldn't mount up to the frame.

And although a Super 8 uses a GY6, it's their version of a GY6.  I've noticed subtle differences such as the position of the exhaust port, the ignition pick up coil is located at 5 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock on a standard GY6, uses a 12 pole stator, the CDI has 8 pins instead of 6 and the final drive gears are located withing a detachable housing where on a standard GY6 are located in the actual engine case. 

I've considered doing a GY6 swap because the performance parts out there will fit but all those differences I found make me think that a GY6 swap isn't going to be easy.

I hear you, i had a TGB laser Taiwan made with gy6 variant, i swapped that motor into agy6 China bike and the motor subframe was slightly different. I just had to grind one side off and shim the other side. There's differences for sure, not many tho. Every variator component will interchange with GY6, EVERY top end (cylinder kits, heads, cams, etc) will fit. Final drive like you said is different, same with stator. The angle of the exhaust flange is different, but a GY6 head will fit a Kymco gy6 based motor. I would never switch to a gy6 based on parts availability, your can adapt darn near any performance part from gy6 to Kymco. Some other slight differences I've found, if you put a high lift cam in, you will need to switch to gy6 rocker assembly. Any gy6 performance intake manifold will work, same with carburetor upgrades. The kymco made parts are 10x higher quality than China GY6.

Do a national craigslist search for a totaled sup8 in a crash. Might pick up a good used motor that way or Ebay.

^^^^^^ great idea, I've seen totaled ones going for less than $500. Added bonus, you get a crap ton of other spares too!

The Kymco engine is actually NOT a GY 6. The GY 6 is a clone of the Kymco engine so therefore they have to make subtle differences in the GY 6 to avoid lawsuits.

Like B&L pointed out... they do swap. Just keep the Kymco stator.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post.
 2wheelfun, I bought the bike used from my neighbor because I knew she kept the bike in excellent shape, did all maintenance and kept good records. It had 12,000 miles on it. I rode it 50 miles and it just lost all power while driving, and never started again. Wouldn't even turn with kickstarted. My husband took it apart, and we planned on fixing whatever MINOR thing that could have gone wrong, but we were shocked when we discovered that the piston rod broke, valves are both bent and piston jammed at top of the cylinder. The only thing in good shape is the crankshaft. Ugh! We think we may take your advice and buy the motor listed in the above post. Any other info is welcomed. Thanks again.

If $$$ is any sort of issue, you can get a crank/rod for 40.00, and a cylinder/head/piston for 80.00 on Ebay
