2009 Kymco 50cc Cdi cut now 5-7 mph faster
« on: November 01, 2009, 11:40:12 AM »
I recently bought this 2009 agility used with about 5,000 miles on it.......Too SLLLLOOOWW!! I read on the net about derestriction and decided to start with just the cdi, now I dont know if there are other things I need to do because I cut the cdi or will my engine be OK with only the cdi box cut. I do know that it was extremely easy and I now I have gotten up to 45 mph with ease!! So I will post a pic of this cut and hope that others have input specifically for the 2009 agility 50!!

No worries on the engine> these are NOT saftey, or protection modifications. The restrictions are there solely to comply w/ local speed limitations for the 50cc licenses laws. The difference you found in the cdi de-restrict, is the same as the diff. in the cvt de-restrict (5-7 mph). Good luck w/ the scoot!

Can you post the pic(s) of what you did to the CDI box?  I also have an '09 Agility 50 that probably needs this done.  Thanks!

Happy scootin'! ;D

"Wordslinger",

I know I am looking at the CDI unit from your Agility in the photo, but I still don't know what you actually did to modify it.  I am assuming you had to cut into it somehow to cut a wire, right? See the photos below of what my CDI unit (from a 2009 Agility 50) looks like:

Now, exactly what am I supposed to do to modify it?  Does your unit have the same numbers on it as mine, as I notice the color of your plug is a different color?

Thanks!

..the "wire" is inside the casing of the cdi...cut the casing, and you cut the wire...

..use a hacksaw, or a file, and just whack away until it kinda looks like the pic.. :)

..ppl say "DON'T CUT TOO DEEP"..but as you see in the pic below, there's a good margin for error..

..the other pic actually isn't my cdi...mine looks like this...lol..

..I stopped posting this pic when showing examples...

..obvious reasoning..kinda extreme...

..you can "fix" that quiet problem with a high-flow air filter..lol..

...i's a very small wire, and you can see it..in real life...

..usually, the blade or file will drag plastic over the copper...makes it kinda hard to see..

..the wire is maybe 1/8" deep in the casing...right in the "top" edge...
