Need routine maintinence advise, Kymco Cobra 2-stoke AC

I have a Kymco Cobra 50 and I'm getting ready to pull off the side cover (where the kick start's at) to replace the gasket. I have a oily black grim slowly leaking out and I'm assuming it's a bad gasket. What else should I look for while I'm in there or what else should I replace? Any belts, parts or, fluids I should change or check? Any insight is appreciated.

Heres my to do list so far:
-leaky gasket around side cover
-tires
-brakes
-figure out issue with charging/wiring, bad battery maybe?

Right now my main goal is assuring my scooter is 100% reliable.

Later on my list will be something along the lines of this:
-70cc big bore
-performance variator/weights
-exhaust
-de-restriction (although previous owner my have done that, I go 40-45 mhp depending on where I got my gas)

I would get the variator now. A set of 5 gram rollers too.
AND a belt.
The bike is old enough that I'm sure all that is toast. It wouldn't hurt to install a Malossi red or purple rear control spring to since your in there.

The oil is coming from one of three places. The rear seal behind the pulleys.    The front seal on the crank shaft   or the breather leading between the carb, and the air box.

The first two you have to pull everything out anyway so it pays to have the new parts ready to install.

The Cobra is a great ass bike. I really like them, and have been trying to get a racer from an old fart that won't let it go.

Anyway... Welcome to the forum.

We can help you locate the parts if you need. Where are you located? (so I can get your bike) No not really... Blue will.

Thanks, I'll definitely add a belt to the list and the variator since I'll be right there. But yeah the Cobra doesn't play, it'll get up and go right along with traffic. It's that 2-stroke torque. And that new variator would only help improve that.

BTW: I'm from Raleigh, NC so if you really want a Cobra it'll be for sale THE DAY I get my licence back...lol

Don't mind Tortoise either. He lurks around lettings us know how bad we are. ( our resident reality check as it were.  If you simply walk calmly he can't see or catch you.

Yeah,  Debbie downer there.  Jeez.  Even once I'm legal again I'm still gonna ride,  and I'm still gonna ride fast.  Was cruising with a NC state trooper without knowing the other day.

Just looked up the cobra.  The Chinese scoots, like VIP,  totally ripped off the body of those. At least it's two stroke.

Yeah, That is a VERY much copied body. Personally I never liked the "turbo jet" kinda look gut it is a great bike.

Kymco put out some bad ass 2t's.

Yota,  keep us updated on the results of the tear down.  I'd like to know the cause of your leak.  I may encounter one someday!
Zombie,  I passed a super 8 that was going extremely slow today.  Seemed like it wasn't able to cut it in the traffic.  That may have made my decision on getting the 8

4t's are tough to tune for any sort of power. The only solution I have found is going up in cc's. The 50mm kits are the only thing that helps.

Basicly most 50 - 70cc 2t's will beat every 90cc 4t scooter
