kymco kr 125 sport reving up

newbie to the bike world i have just bought a kymco kr 125 sport ,the bike is great but when starting it revs up to about 4 thousand revs and stays there for about 2 mins before coming down and dosent really settle down evenly can anyone help

Welcome to the forum

There is a throttle cable adjustment on the throttle control itself. You have to set that to allow about 2mm or so of free play. Meaning the throttle will twist about 2mm before the cable moves.
Once that is correct there is a throttle set screw on the carb. It is a large screw on the left side of the carb. Turning this counter clockwise will lower the rpm.

I'm guessing this is a used bike? second hand?

Sounds like a normal carb and auto choke thing to me. Revs higher while cold then adjusts when it's warm.
