Downtowns first service
« on: February 23, 2015, 05:43:46 AM »
Can anyone tell me when the downtown 300i should get its first service, and what do they actually do? At how many miles should it be performed?

After the breaking-in period ,600 miles or 1000km , the dealer change the engine oil and gearbox oil .normally you pay only for the oil ,no labour charge .

the charge depends on the dealer mine was $28.00 for the filter $18.00 oil change and $85.00 to check all the nuts and bolts   the last time I was there!!! for service two years ago,  I look after my own Baby,  and truck , car, tractor, snow blower ,  elec. byke  they said do not open ( motor ) guess what was the first think got opened ,  very well made that motor,  cleaned lubed and put back together, controller,   sealed do not open( next !!)up graded the relay in it,  works much better,  went to 60 volt from 48 volt gets to 50 km, now  from 32 km.

Just have to ask. The maintanance chart is in the owners manual.
The dealer should have given you one , no matter how generally useless it is...

I believe the first time you want to get it serviced is around 600 miles. (dealer suggested I do this, so they can make sure everything is ok)

They changed my oil and checked things out. With labor and materials used, it was around $60.00 for me. (I don't mind paying this as I have no clue how to do this myself and Im not sure I can trust youtube videos of DIY)

Don't forget the oil screen. You'll be surprised how often this item gets missed.

Thanks for the info.  What happened to the radiator fluid change?

Here's my intervals:

Engine oil - every 1200 to 1500 miles.
Air Filter, Valves adjust, spark plug - every 10K miles.
Radiator fluid - every 10 years regardless of miles.
Final drive  - once to inspect for metal shavings then never again but monitor fluid levels and evidence of leaks.

Bought my 2005 Grandvista used 3 1/2 years ago with 2600 miles on it now it has 16K miles and starts and runs perfect.

Hi,
at 10k, how does the spark plugs look when you pull it out?

Radiator fluid every 10 years????????

For me I'd do it once ever 3yrs and brake fluid once every 2 years.

I can't tell if the tip is worn.

I can't tell if the tip is worn.

The tip / electrode was not worn and the gap was correct.  I changed it because I already bought another plug.  On my car the mix was a little lean and after ~ 40K miles the electrode war burned back slightly.

My point is that the manufactures' suggested maintenance interval is set really low because most scooter owners in the US barely ride.   Most you can go 3x with no problems EXCEPT engine oil  I recommend the what the manual says: 15w40 (regular non-synthetic) changed at 1200 miles OR once a year.

I recommend owners actually *gasp* ride their scooters and focus on issues that happen with time like loose or damaged body panels, a cut in the seat, lubricating the center stand taking the time to put a cover on to protect plastic from the sun.  Replacing the battery with a good quality permanently sealed battery (I spent ~$70 on an interstate battery) Controlling rust, etc.  How many scooters in the US will ever see more than 7K miles?

Finally, I want to emphasize that my scooter starts and runs great same as when I got it with 2600 miles 3.5 years ago.  It's not like it runs poorly or blows smoke or won't start.
