So my Kymco came with a Givi storage box on the back when I purchased it, but when I was removing the surf rack that came with it some how it wasn't actually locked to its mount properly and fell off while riding to work the next day. (I know how the hell did I let that happen) So I started looking for a new storage box and looked at 46 size boxes from Givi and couldn't believe the prices. My buddy recommended Bestem and I found a nice 46 with a lining and brakel ight for $99 on amazon with prime. Ordered it, and it came with a mount kit and everything needed. Well sadly the mounting kit does not work with the stock mounting tail rack of the people 250. Its meant for a a wire rack according to the instructions. That wasn't going to stop me though so here is my installation. I still had the mounting blade for the givi box that feel off and I knew it would work on the rack so I started with that.
So here is the Givi mount I'm going to use. Here you can see the 4 mount points i used to mount it to the rack. The two bolt on the left of the first picture I had to go up from the bottom since my socket wouldn't fit in the holes on the bottom of the rack. Doing this made the bolts stick out up the top too much so I had to cut off the top of the bolts with a dremel. You can kinda tell they are cut in the picture. Also I had to cut off the plastic locking clip the Givi used.
Next I had to drill out some of the plastic to get the bolts that will go through the mount of the Bestem through the Givi to the rack. You can see where I drilled through the plastic mount at the back.
Next I checked the fitment and made sure the bolts would go through all the way.
Here are the bolts I "was" going to use that came with the Bestem.
Turns out the back ones would go all the way through crap.
I grab the bolts that were on the Givi mount original before the box fell off, and those worked. Yaay.
Came through just enough. Tightened everything up and put on the box. Also I had to cut away a bit of the Givi mount closest to the seat as the seat was rubbing when you opened it up. Still need to clean that up with my dremel.
What it looks like installed.
What started as a 30 minute job turned in a 2 hour job, but its installed.
Barring the massive workaround I had to use to get it mounted, the Bestem build quality is very good and the lock works perfect everytime. I use it every day to store my bag for work and my helmet while I'm in the office. It shows it can fit 2 helmets and it might if they are 3/4 or just skullcaps but it'll only fit 1 full face helmet with lots of room for other smaller stuff. Very happy with the purchase and would recommend it as a low cost storage box.
