One year and 5000 miles
« on: March 31, 2015, 03:00:51 AM »
It's been one year and three weeks since I brought my LIKE home from the dealer. In that time, I have ridden it through various speeds and conditions. Living in Southern California, it has seen extreme temperatures between 55 - 90 degrees. (Mind boggling, I know). Most of the rides, after break in, have been in the 45-55 mph range. Some roads had 60 mph speed limits, so I was pushing it.

My opinion of this little Chinese bike has not changed. It is everything I expected it to be. As a midrange scooter under $3000.00, it has handled what I have thrown at it. It is not of the Vespa or Honda quality. It is a great entry/midlevel scooter. I will move up to a bigger scooter, as my desires have changed. This scooter still puts a smile on my face even when my backside has surrendered.

The only issues I have experienced is a bad spark plug and the rear fender bracket cracked and broke. I used a torch and a hanger for a good gas weld on the bracket. Good as new. It is about time to open it up and check/replace the belt and rollers. Maintenance items are more frequent on these little bikes .
It was a good choice for my first scooter. This is my first year review.

LidoCA,
Good review. Thanks for posting.
I agree, it is a mighty fine first scooter.
I keep thinking I should sell mine - and just run the Forza - but I like riding this Kymco Like so much....esp. in the dark and rain etc.
It is so easy to work on (once you get that belt cover off the 1st time & get the gasket cleaned off)
They don't have the world's greatest resale value - since left-overs are all over the place - so maybe I should just keep it since I won't get much for it......"Right, Dear?"
Or, maybe I should sell it on while it is running perfectly?
My luck I'd see the goofy thing zooming around town for the next 10 yrs if I sold it.....running like a champ on the box of spares I sold with it!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Nice review. I agree it's a nice scooter for the $. I've had mine since late July 2012. It has over 8,000 miles with few issues the worst being two OEM batteries gave out within the first year of ownership and a seal leak behind the variator. Both issues covered under warranty. Maintence is frequent, but affordable as I do all the maintenance myself. Average gas mileage has been a steady 80 mpg. 😃

Checkout out the YT vids or buy a subscription to Cyclepedia for the Kymco Like and do your own wrenching.

Enjoy!
