12 YEARS AND STILL COUNTING
« on: April 12, 2015, 06:18:50 PM »
Well I had my 2003 kymco super 9 l/c  for twelve years now and still riding it, I would have to say it's been good to me. These are the problem I,ve had over the years...
1-cvt belt broke in 2012
2- only once in the winter (2015) it did not start...temp was 5 degree's
3- tach stop working 2013 (and still not working)

I do change my spark/filters and tranny oil every year :)
"GO" "GO" SUPER 9I am thing about the peoples(used) or the super 8 but I seem to like the two stroke better but I don't seem like they have any choices :'(

Awesome!  I've bought my 2005 used and have loved every minute of it's riding time.  Just past 19000 kms.  You seem to have had better luck on very minor issues,  but I've put mine through the ringer at times.
You ever consider the super 8 two stroke that they just stopped making,  or the two stroke people?  I actually had someone I met with a beat up people 50 that gave it's best at keeping up with me off the line,  him stock,  me modded.
I'm always on the look out for either of those two,  even though there's a guy selling his exact model as yours online still that I'm keep talking myself out of buying...

Have 03 too, bought used late last year, has approx 5,100km's now, tach was not working when I got it.  I am really loving it, loads of fun, some frustration, but overall have really enjoyed it.

There is 13 Super 8 2T local for sale, would love to buy but already have 05 People 50 2T.   I think it would be very easy to have 6 to 8 scooters in no time, have to watch out for that, have too toys already.  Cheers

Never fixed tach, but trying to.  I'm not very good with anything electrical, so far have only disconnected wires and reconnected them looking loose, bad connection at the instrument panel.  Next I need to figure out where the tach signal is coming from, I think probably from the stator, but don't know.  Maybe a bad connection on that end.  The tach needle does move around some, but erratic, so I think it may be getting a signal.  Maybe the tach is malfunctioning, and needs to be replaced?

Ratherthan buying another complete Kymco instrument, I would probably add a tach and cylinder head temp instrument I have used on karts for racing.  I have several old ones that work well, just need to figure out good way to mount one to handle bars.

Cheers

I have an 04' Sup 9 liquid cooled.  FYI for those having tach problems, my S9 tach started not working and jumping around when I used the incorrect sparkplug. I believe the plug that came with the scoot is a resistor plug. When I installed the correct plug, the tach worked fine. (see owners manual for spec)

I've seen on a manual I downloaded for my 2005 lc that it's the br8hsa. With my little problems I may try a hotter one myself.

I am using the correct spark plug, so pretty sure plug not reason tach doesn't work.

Tach could be the tach cable, the actual gauge itself, could be the tachometer plastic gear, a number of different things.

Because I love tinkering I would've already torn the cluster apart [emoji12]
I took apart my r50x cluster to see if I could spot any problems that were causing the digital speedometer to fritz out,  ended up learning a little about how the tach functions in the cluster.  The hard way,  I might add.
I've used a few different types of plugs, 7,8,and now 9. The only time my tach has ever wigged out was when my battery connection was acting up.
