HID Xenon 35w headlight install
« on: April 14, 2015, 08:07:30 AM »
The headlight output on my 2009 agility is the equivalent of a candle light. I constantly think about upgrading to an HID kit, but the ba20d stock headlight housing makes an upgrade very complicated. There are previous threads on this topic but nothing answers any specific questions. For anyone who has knowledge or experience on this topic:

1. Does a kymco agility 125 have an AC or DC electrical system?
2. How well do the cheap chinese ba20d HID kits mount to the stock housing? Light output?
3. If I modify the housing to fit a 35w H4 HID kit (low xenon/high halogen), will the battery be able to withstand the extra power usage?

Simple answer, does your headlight come on with the key or engine running? I'm pretty sure the headlight is ac on the agility, meaning that the dc charging system is fairly weak. You won't be able to use a 35w hid without charging issues. I have used one on my tgb with ac headlight, and i had to put the bike on a trickle charger once a day. I have no idea about the base style, it's not common and they might not even make an hid kit for it.

The headlight comes on with the engine running. When the key is in the 'ON' position but the engine is not running, the headlight will not work. In this case, would the headlight be AC or DC?

I've seen many project threads about modifying the housing to accept an h4 bulb, but the conversion is daunting. Here is a link to a chinese HID bulb kit for ba20d bulbs --> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Xenon-HID-Motorcycle-H7-H6M-BA20D-6000K-High-Low-Beam-Bi-Xenon-35W-White-Light-/271611680513   OR    http://www.hdbright.com/ba20d-hid-headlight-conversion-kit-for-ktm-single-5000k-p-329.html
