Question about the new GT300I scooter release
« on: April 18, 2015, 03:45:39 PM »
So, question fellow GT300i owners. I love the Honda Sh300i but it is not available in the US, the new one just came out in Europe (). It fits a full face helmet under the seat but the engine is the same size as the old Sh300i @ 278cc.
So do you think Kymco will come out with a new People GT300i or better yet GT350i like the new Downtown (although the step through design may not handle the added power) or will Honda bring the Sh300i? Or will Kymco drop the GT300i altogether? I have found nothing online about the new People Gt300i or if it will come to the US. any thoughts or ideas...

What's wrong with the GTi300 the way it is?  I also wanted a Honda SH300i but found the Kymco to be exceptional. If you really need to lock up your helmet, get a larger top box.

I agree with Neo, not enough reason to go with the 350.
Also I wouldn't plan on Honda bringing in anything new. They seem to have kissed the SW goodbye with no plans to replace it.

The ruckus and the pcx are the sellers here. The other Honda scoots just plain sit in the showrooms.

I have a big Nollan helmet that fit in my top box if I layed it on it's side. You can also get a cord bike lock and lock your helmet to the side rails of your scoot just below the top box. Saw someone doing that the other day and it looked like it works really well. You just leave the lock coiled up on the rail until you need it.

like it is.
Cannot imagine Kymco dropping their best machine.
Try one, you'll like it.
The Downtown and GT s are good scoots that perform well and are dependable.
I use to think I needed an SH until I bought a GT. Now I don't think about Honda s.

You must not know Kymco very well, they love dropping the most popular model.

I'm aware there are many idiots in top management in most companies.
Some of those idiots destroyed the company I worked for.
All they did was walk around kissing butt and bumping into each other.
Nothing would surprise me now days.

As a somewhat "insider" working for a Kymco authorized dealer, Kymco USA is not doing very good at choosing what models to import. Leaning towards Mainland China bikes. The best selling bikes for 6+ years were the People 50 and People 150 and for no reason at all they stopped importing and started importing the Super 8, made in China, at the same price point. The People 150 quality is drastically higher than the new China Kymcos. IMHO to dilute the brand with majoity China bikes was a very, very bad move. Don't get me wrong, I love my Taiwan made Bet & Win and plan to keep it for as long as possible. The Like 200 is a good scooter, still that made in China sticker that I have to take off every single one really bugs me, I can't be quite as proud talking to customers about them. The larger 300cc scoots are great bikes, but more than $1000 over what the "old" 250s were going for, S250 was $4799 out the door and again this is my OPINION, the People 250 and S250 are better bikes than the PeopleGT, better tank size, better seat storage, and really only about 10mph slower. Sorry I rant when I start to think about these things........ LOL

As I agree with most of this I had a P250 and it was a great bike. IMO it is still a "go to" when looking used.

That said the 300 kymco power plant is far and away smoother, obviously more powerful and damn near as efficient. I can also get one OTD between 3999.00 and 4499.00 on most days. Those are 2013 or 2014 leftovers but still a lot of scooter for the money.

I'll also never understand how they pick what comes over. It's a strange mix.

The DT300 is also being rebadged as a Kawi J300 this year so I doubt that model will go away in the next few years.

Honda will never, ever bring in the SH line to the USA. They brought in the SH150 for one year (too expensive) & it was gone. What kills me is looking @ the Kymco Canada offerings:

There is no way Canada buys more scooters then the US. Once again we get ripped-off as usual.

I agree with you fully in you all your comments. I had the Honda Sh150i, great scooter, 15.5 HP from a 150cc motor, smooth, great fit and finish, made in Italy. I was in the market for a 150 cc Sh150i would the one. The Sh300i also made in Italy performs and better than the GT300i with less power (according to the European reviews). Mind you, I own and LOVE my GT300i but the quality simply isn't the same but neither is the price tag. Kymco did drop the GT300i from the Canadian market...
