2013 Kymco Super 8 50 - 86 vs 90 jet and Mod questions
« on: April 23, 2015, 08:18:55 PM »
Hi All - New member/first post.

I've done a ton of research and have all mods mostly installed with the exception of the main jet.   I have an 86 jet and a 90.  Which one would be better for the setup below?  Is there a huge difference?

Here are my mods:
Technigas Next Exhaust
Malossi Variator w/7 gram rollers and smooth boss
Purple Contra Spring

Thanks

Just to varify:

You have 3 screws visible ?????

1-Float Bowl drain screw
2-Slider adjustment screw
3-Airscrew

You have done absolutely nothing like remove airbox snorkel to increase any amount of air flow into the cylinder ?

I cant advise you as I dont run a chambered exhaust but hopefully someone can advise. There is a another new person (see recent thread) running a chambered exhaust with stock carb airbox just like you. Maybe hell get back to us on his progress or others can possibly help.

Hey Chris - Thanks for the response.  I have an update.

This weekend I installed a 90 jet, a Technigas Next Exhaust, took the tube out of the air box, drilled two 1/2 inch holes in the stock air box cover, and added a Malosi Variator with 8.5 gram weights.  I was also able to do the idle air mixture adjustment.  The screw was as all the way to the right as other posters have stated.  At that point, I then tuned the carb and the scooter runs excellent.

I currently have decent acceleration and am able to get to 45mph tops rather quickly.   One thing to ask.......with my acceleration, I start off quick, but it really opens up after 15mph to top speed.  Is there any way to get more acceleration from 0-15mph?  Would I need a purple contra spring?

By the way, if anyone is interested, I weigh 192lbs with the mods in my sig to get 45mph.

Not sure too much about acceleration in your case.

I am only guessing here:

Purple contra with 8 gm Dr Pulley Sliders. Or a 1500 RPM yellow contra may equal the purple malossi contra I have. Im seeing the purple contra hard to find in the USA right now.

Im impressed with your performance so far. Ill be going to 8 gm sliders sometime this week when I install a torsion controller.

Using 8 gm sliders is like using 7 gm rollers.

I purchased the purple contra from RP, but wanted to see what it was like stock and have not installed yet.  Scooter seems great without it so far, but I have not taken it on any hills yet.  Took a month to get the parts, but they have good pricing so I can't really complain.

I think I found the acceleration issue from one of your previous posts.  I believe I put the variator on and "pinched" the belt.  I am going to put a washer in to separate the belt a bit from the variator tonight after work and will report my findings.  Seems like it is starting in 2nd gear and not allowing to get to first.

You are ahead of me in performance and it seems your are now at the CVT tuning stage. Thats where the experts or trial and error come in to play.

Its kinda like when I kept calling my friend to ask how to get past levels of Rygar and at some point he couldnt help me as I eventually went further than him and one couldnt save that game. Well with the tornado hitting Hamden, Ct and parents banging on my door asking what I'm doing in there I finally beat the game a 1am in the morning. I luckily didnt lose power.

Let me ask: did you remove the snorkel from the airbox if you even have a snorkel on that model.

what exhaust pipe do you have? If its an expansion pipe you NEED to install stiff clutch springs, otherwise it engages below your RPM band. Expansion pipes DON'T hardly work at all if you rev too low, and if the springs engage the clutch before you "hit the pipe" it'll feel really, really weak. You can get the malossi "street" spring set and it comes with 3 different harnesses to try.

Hey there.  I have the Technigas Next R

So that must be the issue then?

Yeah, that pipe looks to be for high RPM use, it'll suck until you change the clutch springs. You can do it at the same time as putting in the purple malossi spring. HUGE difference when you get the RPM in the pipes powerband.

Good to know. I was wondering why it was more of a slug until 15mph.  Anywhere besides RacingPlanet where I can buy these springs?

Also, for this spring kit, would you suggest using the 15% or 30% first?

Thanks again.

Honestly I would start with the red and go from there. That pipe is high revving and needs the RPM to work right. It'll jump really good off the line once you find the best combo. I would order those off RP, might check if they have them in USA stock otherwise they will take months to get them in.

That makes sense.  I actually just ordered the springs (Malossi) off Amazon.  Should get it by Wednesday with Prime.  LOL.  2 day shipping is better than one month.  Thanks again for your help troubleshooting this.  I appreciate it.

Will aftermarket clutch springs fit on the stock clutch? Is there a certain brand we should look for ? I'd like to try a set just a step down from reds myself.
